as a part time tesco employee, its an OK company to work for.. it all depends who your managers are in the store tbh. some love it, others dont.

they pay a flat rate of £7 p/h which always go up every year, you get 10% discount off your shopping with the privilege card (after 6 months service) there is O/T if you need it but recently budgets have been cut to all stores because of major overspending. there are premiums for working sunday, b/h etc (time + half, so £10.50 an hour is not bad!).

but checkout work is really boring.. shop floor is much better.

OP, what sort of hours does she work at Barratts ?. She may be able to fit her hours at Tesco around her hours at Barratts. That way, she will have the best of both worlds, a job when Barratts closes and 8 years of redundancy.

Btw, working for one of the big 4 is good experience for when Aldi start recruiting (they actually pay a good wage unlike Tesco).

Good idea in theory but Tesco tend to offer flexi contracts, a fixed minimum of hours for example 16.5 but then you can be asked to work extra up to 37 hours and fired for not showing enough flexibility. It can make it difficult to fit around other commitments.

I'm a little bemused as to why the OP thinks his wife can't wear make up if she works for Tesco.

Another Tesco vote and because it's a new store, everyone will be new so its a good time to start,. Also on a practical level, she would get a staff discount after being there 6 months or so...
