Job dilemma - Barratts or Tesco!

LadyMissA,
Only going on what the JSA web-site says (below is a copy and paste - note the 182 days):
Contribution-based Jobseeker's Allowance
You may be entitled to claim contribution-based Jobseeker's Allowance if you have paid enough National Insurance contributions (NICs). Jobcentre Plus can pay this for up to 182 days. Generally, self-employed contributions will not help you qualify for contribution-based Jobseeker’s Allowance.
Maybe you know something I don't.0 -

Yes contribution JSA is paid for 6 mths then your contrbutions run out so then you have to apply for Income Based JSA
The poster after says you do not get JSA for longer than 6 mths if you as her husband are working. I do not know about that as I am single.0 -
Same old story, yes I am working so yes she will lose JSA. (Neither of us have claimed a single benefit in 18 years of marriage).0

OP, what sort of hours does she work at Barratts ?. She may be able to fit her hours at Tesco around her hours at Barratts. That way, she will have the best of both worlds, a job when Barratts closes and 8 years of redundancy.
Btw, working for one of the big 4 is good experience for when Aldi start recruiting (they actually pay a good wage unlike Tesco).Never Knowingly Understood.

Don't forget that Tesco have staff discount and employee share schemes.
I don't know what the percentage is, but a discount on the weekly shopping can't be bad.
And think how much money she will save not wearing expensive clothes and make-up to work every day!A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0 -
If I was her I would take the job at Tesco and then after a reasonable amount of time, say 6 months (or earlier if she actually hates it) look for a job in another shoe or accessories retailer if shes more suited to that.0

Another vote for Tesco, it may take a while before she qualifies for all the benefits (like the staff discount card) but they are expanding where Barretts are shrinking, provide a uniform and, once qualified, the staff benefits are handsome. Don't know what I'm doing, but doing it anyway... :huh:0
