Yeah they have but it would cost using it that way as they have to load the maps on the go. using a specific app would be best as the maps are already loaded.

Just take cash or a credit card, simple
You certainly wont get a fake/replica watch on the strip.
(you are aware selling fakes is illegal both here and the USA)

Your thinking of the lookie lookie men in spain...

can't help with the watches, but for the cash - whatever you feel comfortable with really. we usually take over about $3-400 in cash, I take half, OH takes half (just changed at a bank/PO in the UK).

if I'm buying things in shops, I'll use the credit card (remember to take photo ID).
if I'm paying for a meal, I'll use cash.

when cash starts to run low, I'll use debit card to get $2-300 in one go from an ATM (to save on fees).

I usually take the credit card out with me for shopping, and leave the debit card in the safe in the room, just to be on the safe side.

City maps to go on iPad doesn't need WiFi. Forgot about that. About £3 to buy, I think.

Depending on the map detail and for the area you may require you could be looking at having a couple of gig to download, either at home before you go or out there using wifi (or if you're crazy via 3g). You can always sell on ebay a tomtom that you bought out there and you'll probably do OK out of it. Have a quick look on ebay for a USA satnav to get an idea.

oh come on - the suggestion to photocopy dollars was hiliarious in light of the fake watch question.

On the 'best way' it's personal preference...you'll get a variety of answers - some will lean toward each of your options, others will use debit cards (those with no fee card) credit cards (ditto)...there is no best way really...and the viable options are dependant on what cards someone has due to the varying fees...many of us have credit/debit cards with no fees as we go to the US regularly...if you don't, those options might not make sense.

And some of it will be down to how much cash you will need...while every little bit helps - some of the options may be more faff than necessary to save a couple of quid.

A lot of good information compiled here:

Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?
