Hi all,
my old car doesn't start up anymore so I would like to scrap it, is there any companies which can collect the car from your driveway and pay you some money for the car as well? :T
Which bit of "I would like to scrap it" do people not understand. The OP doesn't want to sell it. He wants someone to tow it away and give him some cash as well.0 -

So if somebody takes something away and gives you money for it isn't that a pretty good definition of "selling"?Can I help?0 -

its all about getting the most money for something its MSE after all..
cartakeback would give you £150ish depending on the car.. they will issue a destruction certificate and give you the cash.
but as i said in a previous post you could get more than "scrap" value for it..Sealed pot challenger # 10

Just check your local paper / freeads. They are often scrap companies in there who are more than willing to bring their tow truck around and give you a few £'s for it.0

I tried a few when I was trying to get rid of my Mondeo - local scrap merchants were offering 100-150ish, cartakeback offered me 170 to take it away. They turned up on time, with a cheque.0

Yep, Cartakeback are the ones to go for, they give you a list of about 5 quotes from scrappers/breakers around you and you just select the best price.
In my case a local scrapper offered me 40 quid for a 1999 Matiz saying it was because it didn't weigh very much, so after getting advice from this site I entered my details with the above and the best quote was from Slough ELV centre (I'm in the Bromley, Kent area) for £180. They said they'd pick it up in 2 days time and would class it as a non-runner as I said I wanted to keep the new battery. They also said they'd pay by cheque, so I contacted Cartakeback to see if it was safe to receive a cheque and the guy said he'd never had a problem with anyone not being paid out and to contact him if there were any issues in this regard.
To cut a long story short, the very friendly driver turned up bang on time at 12.30 with 3 other cars already loaded and he even gave me a call when he was 30 mins away as promised. I drove the car onto the transporter, took out the battery, a further minute to exchange paperwork and I was off to bank the cheque which cleared 4 working days later. All in all a very professional service.0
