I'm not sure of all the correct jargon, but I have been using Thunderbird to get my emails since changing computers a few months ago, I'm not very impressed with it! I read on Google that it is possible to receive these emails on my other Gmail account, is this true? if I can will it effect my existing Gmail email? Will the emails be mixed together?

You can set your Gmail account to pick up other email accounts (Check the settings)
Click hte small gear icon on Gmail then select "Mail Settings" then "Accounts"
half way down there's an area to set up the login details for the accounts you want Gmail to pick up.
If you do that then there's a small change you need to make to your browser to open Gmail instead of thunderbird when you click on an email address...
in Firefox go to "Edit" then "Preferences" then go to the "Applications" tab
Type in "mailto" in the small search box and you'll get one entry, click on the dropdown and select "Use Googlemail"Laters

Not only will gmail pick them up, it will reply as if it was that account - my gmail accounts picks up and replies for several accounts in this way.0

I've noticed that Thunderbird takes a long time to download emails etc. unlike when I was using Outlook Express, do you think it will be as quick as the Gmail account, the emails are already in when Gmail opens up?
I've also started using Chrome will this affect the settings?no debts0 -
the client shouldn't affect the speed of download.!!

It takes time for Thunderbird to open then start the POP transfer of emails.
And *YES* it can be slow (POP3 is by default throttled by the mail servers) so if you've got a lot of email (usually spam!) it can be slow going!!
Using Gmail gets around this as you're accesing the mail directly on the Mail server, instead of waiting for it to be downloaded to another program..Laters

any emails are instantly available in gmail, also if you use that for business (as I do) you can access your gmail account with ease in a number of ways.0

Plus you can set up gmail as an exchange account on any non-android phone (no need on android because of the actual gmail app).0 -

Gmail is a webmail service, so there is no downloading. You can configure Gmail to download into any desktop email program if you wish (OE, Thunderbird etc).No free lunch, and no free laptop0
