Hi Mf0u, sounds like you are feeling a lot better.

Can I do a quick update: No 149 reporting, been a bit quite the last few days while I wait for everything to settle. Just another £20.30 to stick on so total paid off is £850.91

Thanks Jemma for the lovely new thread and thank you so much for the time and effort you've put into it, it gives me motivation having a thread like this with everyone encouraging each other. And also thanks Kerri_dfw for the links to the challenges.

If anyone is trying to cut back in the home with food etc I'd recommend having a look on the Old Style board, there's loads of money saving tips and advice on there:

I also need to lose some weight, I haven't weighed myself for months :o so I'll pluck up the courage to jump on the scales and post here later.

Cheating a small bit as my min payments haven't cleared yet, but just paid £33 to the cc so it'll be just under the 6k mark after all min payments :) Yay!! No payments for a few days now until I can either get back to my spreadsheet or all my payments have gone out.

    Happy Hogmanay all!! xx

Thanks so much for running this thread mf0u, it has really inspired me, and must take you a lot of time. :A
I still haven't decided what to do with my insurance payout but have phoned loan comp for a settlement figure, it doesn't look like we'll save much interest my paying it off early, even though we've still got 18 months to go. I'll keep you informed.

Wishing all the other MSE rs a peaceful, healthy and hopefully debt free 2012.:A

I'm going to use Weightwatchers, but not pay for it, I've used it before and have all the stuff. I'm going to use their old "Switch" programme as I lost a load of weight on it years ago and it worked well for me.
Jemma, do you want to start a secondary "weight loss chat" thread for this, to stop the debt stuff getting clogged up?

Well, I registered for this board ages ago, but as I've been very headin the sand about my debts I just kept away to avoid feeling bad. But following another xmas of spending much more than I should on CCs and topping up a loan from my Credit Union, I have now spent 3 days reading this thread and the original. I think it would be rude not to join.

I don't really know if I will be able to clear my debt by xmas 2012, but I aim to have a good try at it.

    My debt currently stands at:
    4000 credit union loan
    500 local bank cc
    400 Mr T cc
    333.50 unsecured personal loan
    350 overdraft
250 household rates arrears (I live in NI, do you have these in UK?)
giving me a grand total of £5833.50

We are a family of 3 living on one income as my partner has been off work now for 3yr+ due to an injury at work. During this time I refused to admit how long-term it is and carried on spending as if we have 2 wages...so I need to open my eyes and start making in-roads to clearing it.

Steps I have taken so far:
in NI we only recently got open competition in the energy market - we now have a whole 2 providers to choose from in gas, and 2 in electricity - so I have switched and wil now be getting 17.5% saving in leccy and 10% in gas for the next 2 years.

bartered with virgin to have my bill reduced (but not services) by £15 / pcm

stopped my £5 pcm payroll giving (I feel really bad about this)

started a sealed pot - I have filled one with <50p coins, and am into my next one.

bought little stocking fillers and toiletries sets from the sales for next xmas

Steps I am going to take:
    - dig out my sewing machine and finally learn to use it - so I can reuse old curtains and other things, and hopefully make some of the xmas gifts for people from my daughter next year
    - finally sort out all the stuff my partner hoards and see what we can ebay
    - car boot sales (have only done one and managed to make £80 rather swiftly, so really must do it again when I finally pass my driving test)
    - see if it is possible to slightly reduce my helathcare deduction from my salary
-find fun free activities to do with my daughter (11) who always seems to want to do very expensive things (go to the ice hockey)
    - start a SVP as I have a high interest savings account that has been bled dry over the past 3 years
-clear my overdraft so I can move to a free account and stop paying £11 pcm for free travel insurance that I probably won't be able to claim on anyway due to my crohn's disease

ok....so apologies for long post, just needed to get that all out of my head and into the ether before the new year starts!
  • I thought that my figure paid off looked a bit untidy so I've made an extra little payment to cc to tidy it up! I told you this was worryingly addictive :D

So new new figure is now
