  • And if police see my parent's address on my licence and MOT when I produce, and the other address on my insurance details?

Unlikely all you have to say is you where planning on changing them over
  • Is there anyway the insurer could get out of the claim? The address I'm insured at is the more expensive of the two, my landlord can verify I stay there, and the phone and broadband are in my name?

When you took out your insurance cover you stated that the address in Belfast is the address at which the vehicle is normally kept....So they cannot IMHO cancel the insurance because your Licence and V5 are at your parents address. You have told your insurers all the relevant information. The licence and V5 are merely clerical records which need to be updated that you have not got around to doing yet, that have nothing to do with the insurance.

The police will probably point out to you the error and tell you to update them both ASAP, as it is an offence not to keep them updated. I don't think they will actually prosecute you for not doing it.

Yes it is a reasonable excuse to wait for the insurance certificate to be re-issued so that you can present it to the police station. You don't have a certificate so you cannot show one within 7 days, you have done as much as you can to get one ASAP and you will show it to them when you have it, until then it is not within your control, so you are providing it as soon as is reasonably practicable.
  • Thanks, I've really been stressing out over this.
  • If you classify your current address as a temporary one you could state that it was more practical to keep your car registered at your parents'. Once you have a permanent residence, then it would be practical to change your V5 and license over. As long as your parents don't move and you aren't at your temporary address for an elongated period, I don't see an issue.
  • Should I be pro-active, phone them Tuesday morning, tell them the other party got my parents' address from the police, and ask if they would like verification that I'm living in Belfast?
  • Went into police station, got a 14 day extension, they seemed fairly relaxed about it, didn't hassle me about it, just said "oh right, well how long did they say it would take for your documents to arrive?"
