Ok, we have a whole month off from mid-July to mid-August for our HM!!!! But where to go???? We fancy a bit of activity/culture and maybe a nice island/beach too. We don't like resort-based or package hols and will be booking it all ourselves.
We love SE Asia but the monsoon may be a problem, would it? Doesn't it move around?
We would prefer to go outside Europe as we have a month off, but are totally stuck for ideas...
Help!

The Dominican Republic is very nice. You can choose to sit and do nothing all day or go off trekking. However, if it's a honeymoon you may rather just chill on the beach. Some nice places on the east and south coasts. Cheapest of most of the tropical areas.Maureen0

Yes the monsoon season(s) vary a lot from place to place in Asia, even
between places not that far apart.0 -
Thanks both of you
Maureen - we had sort of excluded the Caribbean as we thought it was hurricane season
Must do more research on the monsoons, it's hard to find a definite answer! Vast swathes of Indonesia are fine (best time to be in Bali). Within that time frame personally I would look at going from Mid Java (Jogja / Solo) to Lombok via Bali. Lots of beaches, cultures, perfect weather, great to research and to book yourselves.0

we're trying to come up with ideas for our minimoon in july (not very mse i know!). Our plan is asia early next year for our proper honeymoon, so trying to think of somewhere in europe, not the uk though, that is reasonably priced but gives us a chance to get away after the wedding. any ideas?0

We have been to Bali in August ( via Hong Kong) and the weather was beautiful, lovely beaches away from the main tourist hot spots - (which are a bit like a Benidorm for Australians).Culture and beauty abound, we hired a car and did a tour, but if not used to mad driving, then get car and driver.
Have also done Sri Lanka in the summer ( can you tell I'm limited by school holidays) which also has nice beaches, lovely people, culture, elephant safaries, old colonial tea country etc.0 -
How about Australia? It will be colder in August but still about 20 degrees and there is so much to do.
If you want somewhere warmer, America might be a good choice?
As you are going to have a month you could do a mini tour or a cruise:D so many possibilities I am jealous haha0 -
I know! It'll be great!
Thanks for all the tips so far, much appreciated.7 Feb 2012: 10st7lbs 14 Feb: 10st4.5lbs 21 Feb: 10st4lbs * 1 March: 10st2.5lbs :j13 March: 10st3lbs (post-holiday) 30 March: 10st1.5lbs 4 April: 10st0.75lbs * 6 April: 9st13.5 lbs 27 April 9st12.5lbs * 16 May 9st12lbs * 11 June 9st11lbs * 15 June 9st9.5lbs * 20 June 9st8.5lbs 27 June 9st8lbs * 1 July 9st7lbs * 7 July 9st6.5lbs0 -
