I've been trying to find out about this as I have a similar situation....when I worked in a clothes shop years ago we were told the law was that if someone brought back a faulty item with no receipt they had to be given back the full price even if they'd bought it in a sale - anyone know if this is still true??
I don't think that was ever true. The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0 -
No, its the other way round. Although I'm not sure about it being law, there are often notices up in stores saying that refunds will be given at the price the item is on sale at that moment, whether you paid full price or not.
If you have no receipt or proof of payment you dont have a chance at all unless its a good will gesture by the company
That would only be if you don't have a receipt. If you are entitled to a full refund and have a receipt, you are entitled to a refund at the price you paid. The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0 -
What they said!
If you've got a faulty item and have proof of purchase then you're entitled to the amount that was originally paid for the item.
If it was reduced when it was bought (lets say £30 to £20) and the purchaser paid that lower price then thats what they get back. If they paid £30 and it was reduced to £20 after they bought it then they're entitled to the full £30.
If, however, they have no proof of purchase at all then it would be a good will gesture on behalf of the store who would probably only exchange it and probably only for the current selling price. As much as the SoGA is on your side, there's got to be some defence for the retailer.0
