Afternoon all :hello:
Hi newbies
Well.. bit confused as new car coming 1st March (insurance included for 3 years) and our existing policy is due for renewal 4th Feb. If we take the policy (bearing in mind it's going up from £61/mth to £124!! ) we will also have to pay a cancellation fee of £26.50 at the end of Feb. So in effect we're paying £150 to have the car for just less then a month, which seems ridiculous. What does anyone else think? We can pretty much get lifts to and from work every day and we have no where that we were planning on going 'far away' until we got the new car in March anyway.. so seems like alot of money.
I don't know whether to get rid of the new car and end the policy from beginning of Feb and just make do without it.We only work 2/3 miles away so as last resort could both walk if we had to. I could also save the normal £61 direct debit from the missed payment too.
DH's no claims bonus is protected cos we've checked, so no problem there. What does anyone think??
xx
ps wonder how hopless is going on0 -
thank you saorsie :-)0

will you need the new car? it seems a shame with 3 years insurance to get rid of it BUT not worth the money for 1 month just to hold onto it. I'm a bit confused, if the car is not being delivered until 1 march, why do you need the insurance on it? can you not just cancel the policy at beg o Feb?0

Sorry, I went on waffeling a bit didn't I and didn't really make anything clear lol
It's the insurance on our existing car that runs out on 4th Feb, but we aren't getting our new car until 1st March. So in order to keep our old car up until the new one coming, it turns out we'd have to pay £124 insurance and £26.50 cancellation fee for ending it early.
So I don't know whether cost wise it would be better to just not have a car at all for the month and get rid of our old car beg Feb to save insuring it again.
So the options are pay £150 for less then a month (normal insurance payment was £61/mth) or get rid a bit early and make do without a car until new one comes 1st of March.
Hope that makes more sense, I don't half waffle do I

Definitely the latter option sweet ~ it would physically pain me to pay that much money for less than a month. £150 odd quid would pay for a lot of delivery charges for online shopping / taxis and public ttansport if really necessary and just think how much fitter you'd both feel after all that walking! :T

Personally I would do without one for a month. So long as you're sure you can still get to and from work and anywhere else you need to be. I've managed to get by without a car at all, but I live in an area with excellent public transport.0
