How to transfer existing HALIFAX ISA SAVER DIRECT to my new HALIFAX ISA SAVER ONLINE?

Options
Hi there. I recently opened a new ISA SAVER ONLINE with Halifax at a 2.6% rate of interest which I am fairly happy with, I do realise I could get about 3% elsewhere but I am sticking with Halifax. Anyway, I already have an existing ISA called Halifax ISA SAVER DIRECT, so online in my online banking it shows the full amount in this original ISA na d Nil in my new ISA SAVER ONLINE.

I am struggling to transfer the original to this new online one, and so I visited my local branch and they explained there is a transfer option on the website, and yes there is, but it does look like it is for providers other than the Halifax (other banks), so as I am going from Halifax to another Haliax ISA, what exactly is the procedure?

  • The same I believe as if you was transferring away from The Halifax. The transfer form is need as you lose your allowance if you just withdraw and pay into a new one or do the transfer yourself, you have to let your providers do that for you.

I suspect it will be the same even if the providers are the same bank. Silly tax rules I guess.

Can't you just phone up and ask Halifax do an automatic transfer from one type of variable Cash ISA to another?
(Particularly as the one with the money in is now a closed account.)

Unless they've changed their system since merging with Lloyds TSB, you didn't actually need to open the new account.

Just phone up and ask for your existing account to be 'redesignated' to an ISA Saver Online. You then keep the same sort code and account number, and just the product type changes. An easy 5-minute phone call.

Shame you can't do this online. Halifax have never grasped the concept of Online banking. You can't secure message them either. They think 'online' means 'telephone banking' or 'visit the branch', presumably so they can try and sell you some of their cruddy products.

Halifax 's online system used to be pretty good.
Then they moved onto the Lloyds platform ...
