broken stove glass

hi i dont know the make and model of my woodburning stove but one of the doors glass has now broken and i need a replacement however as this is our only form of heating and the local fireplace shop isnt open till newyear and getting one offline via post will take until new year were a bit stuck,

i have the old glass removed and messured up i was just wondering can you replace stove glass with the internal oven door glass as this is heatproof aswell i believe and a neighbour told me hes done it before when hes fitted stoves into peoples houses,

i have an old creda double fan oven in my shed which i was going to scrap buts its glass is intact and i have glass cutting tools,

any info asap much appreciated thanks,

I guess that as it's probably ovenproof it's probably worth a shot but consider a stove may run hotter for longer. Perhaps start gently and see how you go. Good luck!

No actually it's not the worst.
It depends on the stove. Some are not recommended to be operated with the door open and in effect this is what will happen if the glass cracks. This could result in leakage of carbon monoxide into the room. Not necessarily at a level which will kill you but resulting in serious health effects which could be with you the rest of your life. Believe me, I am speaking from experience.
It's tough being without heating though thankfully we are so far experiencing a mild winter. Maybe buy or borrow an oil filled radiator till the stove can be fixed?

Same thing happened to a mate of mine, I profiled a piece of 3mm steel, then fitted to door, so what, you could not see flames, but kept them warm till replacement glass was purchased from manufacturer.................
