It has been confirmed that he signed up to the platinum membership for £59.99 but he has not sent copies of his credit card details or ID to them. I spoke to someone on live chat who confirmed there is a £28 cancellation fee.

Please wait for a site operator to respond.

Olivia: Hello! How may I assist you?
you: How do I delete my account? I do not wish to pay £59.99 memebership.
Olivia: You may cancel your account at any time by sending an email to info@ziinga.com.
you: Ok and can you confirm no fees will be withdrawn from my bank account using the details I provided for my recent purchase.
Olivia: let me check on that.
you: Thank You
Olivia: upon checking your account, i can see that you're currently subscribed to the platinum membership.
you: If I cancel today will I be charged?
Olivia: Customers who breach the 3-month binding contract will be charged a cancellation fee of GBP 28.00.
Olivia: yes, of a cancellation fee which is amounting to 28GBP.
you: Ok I shall cancel now.

I am aware that he did sign up and will have accepted T&C's so cannot really complain at having to pay £28 but I was wondering if there is anything that can be done by the bank to block transactions from this company?

Received this email in response to my cancellation email -

This message serves as your notice that your Platinum membership with Ziinga.com has been cancelled.

Your cancellation date is 2012-03-04 which means you may still be able to experience the benefits of your membership until the designated cancellation date.

As a premium member, you will receive the following value added benefits effective only until 2012-03-04:
    • Extra bids for bid package purchases
    • Free shipping
    • Free bid
    • Bid-for-Free Auctions
After the cancellation date of 2012-03-04, you will no longer be charged the monthly subscription fee.

However, before the cancellation date of 2012-03-04 there may be additional charges incurred as part of your three months binding contract so we encourage you to keep on using your account and consume your remaining bids and credits.

All you have to do is log on to Ziinga.com with your username and password.

If you encounter any problems with your transactions at Ziinga.com or have any concerns with our service, our friendly Customer Care Representatives are always at your service through the following communication channels:
  • According to the MSE consumer rights quiz there's a 7-day cooling-off period for online purchases, though I'm not sure whether that will be applicable here.

It was over 7 days ago, I'm trying to establish if they actually have his bank details stored though as if they don't they can't take any money.

I saw a post on another forum, they set up a continous payment auhtority, so they COULD take mroe money - but why woudl they if he has canceleld.

Might be worth giving the bank a ring and aksing if they can put a block on it as you have cancelled.

I'm going to get my mum to call and try to get them to block it.

They sent a link to refund the phone and pay £28 to get out of the 3 month binding contract but it asked for the details to pay so I'm not sure they do have bank details?

Will see what the bank say tomorrow.
  • Why the assumption they'll try and take any money?

So far, you've cancelled and have been charged the cancellation fee - if I were you, before I went off and started trying to cancel and block things, I'd wait and see if they try and take anything!

I'm sort of in the same boat. Signed up for 7 day trail on the basis that I could cancel. Sent a email to cancel then went onto the online chat asked them there to cancel my account was told £28 so I said don't cancel it as I was going to take all cash out of my bank so they couldn't take the membership fee but they cancelled my account and won't refund the £28. Going to try charge back witch you can do with a visa debit card.
