Spent much of the day painting, but have managed to sort out some school papers and they have now gone into the recycling bin. The plan tomorrow is to empty the sideboard and then sand and paint it. I'll empty and declutter at the same time. I have lots of plans for the week so watch this space!

    Have a lovely evening everyone.

After spending the week decorating, I have finally put the sitting room back together. It is now massive! After getting all the empty boxes from the cupboard in the hall I have put all the computer bits & pieces such as the pack of paper & new discs. spent the rest of the afternoon steam cleaning the kitchen floor (still not clean so will have to give it another go tomorrow) and putting that back together. At this rate I won't want to move as it looks as if I have a new house:D

Now just have to sort through all the stuff that has been moved into the conservatory.

half a box of unfrozen jubblies (bin)
1 plastic penguin that a portion of ice cream came in (bin)
    biscuit jar (CS)
    2 snoopy plastic models (CS)
    conference badge (bin)
5 new toys/games that were in the back of the cupboard (CS)
15 boxes from various mobiles, sat nav, wii, camera, etc (recycling bin)

  • Have de-cluttered more clothes:
    2 pairs of jeans
    6 skirts
    1 jacket

    Do charity shops accept underwear?
I've thrown out 6 bras and 3 suspender belts - hardly, if ever, worn. Even if the charity shop would accept them I'd feel a little exposed if I donated them!

I'm finding that the more I get rid of, the easier it gets.

  • two more items for me - book to charity shop, bubble bath bottle to recycling. Will be trying to sort out wardrobe and drawers tomorrow morning and take bag of assorted rubbish, sorry useful items to charity shop tomorrow.

well, didn't make it to the charity shop, but another 3 books and a t shirt added to the bag, together with 2 notebooks, so 111/100 plus pair of laddered tights in to bin, so 112/100 so far this month :j

  • Hi everyone,

Am rushed today as am meeting my prospective adopted children (v. exciting!), so will have to catch up on the thread later.

Hubby and I spent yesterday clearing out the office. Major task as both of us are hoarders where work is concerned and the books, paper and IT stuff was unbelievable. We had to reduce our furniture by two cabinets in order to fit our office into a smaller room. We managed it, just but the landing is full of stuff still to dispose of!

I have emailed a local charity that I heard recycled IT equipment today to see if I can get rid of the IT accessories and components I have accumulated over the years. I have two huge boxes full of redundant disk drives, cables, boards, etc etc that I really need to get rid of but I am aware that they contain materials that are worth something if recycled (and I haven't the time or energy to break them down).

I managed to list a few things on ebay - didn't get everything listed so I will have to wait until the next free listing weekend to do this. One of my items has a bid already which is positive.

I did however manage to list a few more books on Greenmetropolis and I have a load of hubby's books to list which I will do later today.

You can now pedal a trike around our conservatory we have cleared it so much - which might come in handy for 3 and 4 year olds!

On the chucking out front though, I have managed to fill two wheelie bins with office recycling! I also got rid of some stuff through freecycle and have some more to offer later.

I think that's all for now! Have a good day!
:D Thanks to MSE, I am mortgage free!:D
  • I was looking for some de-cluttering inspiration when I found this site: http://www.homemakeoverservice.co.uk/decluttering.html

There are some great before and after pictures (including some "House Doctor" ones). I'm not recommending the services (I know nothing about the company), just the photos!

angelavdavis - I hope you have a great day!! :j

Well after vowing never to sell after a buyer decided my item was not as described (which it was he just bought the wrong thing!) Ive listed 5 DVDs lol. Hopefully selling a few smaller things will get my confidence back.

Amazing how something so rediculous can knock your confidence when your feeling a bit fragile lol

I had that recently, item clearly listed as VHS video (which it was), and I even messaged him after he won the bid, as he'd asked if I could send the DVD and shirt he'd won together, and said 'please note the film is VHS not DVD', so he could cancel the transaction if it wasn't what he wanted. He didn't say he didn't want it, and just agreed to the postage charge, so I sent both items to him. About a month later he gave me neutral feedback because 'DVD would be better'! I replied that he shouldn't have bid on something that was clearly listed as VHS if he wanted a DVD.

I would donate them, I've often seen underwear in charity shops, (not sure I'd buy that sort of thing from a CS but there are obviously people who would), and even if they can't sell them they may be able to put them in their rag bag.

Not done too much, but on Saturday while looking for a receipt to see if our printer is still under warranty (which it isn't ), I found about 10 receipts for things we don't own anymore so they've gone to recycling, along with a pile of newspapers (some from January?!) and I did get 46 items listed on ebay. Also OH took all our cans, bottles and plastics to the recycling centre.

Well I am just having a rest mid way through sorting out the pen tub. It's going to take me all day I fear. I can see why people have automatic sharpener thingies, I'm going to leave the pencils to be sharpened as they are needed I think!

Hope to get a fair bit done today but lets see!
