  • try right clicking it and saving to your laptop, then opening it from Powerpoint, rather than trying to run directly from the website. If it opens, you know it's not a problem with Powerpoint opening documents.

Did Office 2010 actually install properly or did the installation fail and abort?

We had problems installing it recently - a common issue and there's a fix on t'internet - will try and find it...

ok have saved it but when i try to open with powerpoint is not showing as an option
  • Which version of Office 2010 is it? Powerpoint is in all versions as far as I remember; is it showing in the start menu / programs > microsoft office?

Try opening it from within Powerpoint then.
It appears to have lost the file association, right click the file and choose 'Open With', then browse to MS Office>Powerpoint (. Make sure you select 'Always open with' and it will remember next time).
The computer is dumb, it doesn't know what program to open a file with unless you tell it.

If you right click the file on your desktop (or wherever you have saved it to) then you will see the 'Open With' option. It's not anything new to W7, it's been in Windows for many years.

  • now you know it opens you can right click the file, open with and browse to: c:\programme files\ microsoft office\office 14\powerpnt.exe and click the 'always use' box.
