Idiots guide to TV access without an aerial please.

Would someone be kind enough to advise me please?

I've just cancelled my Sky subscription. Our set-up is very limited - just a small TV with integrated Freeview and built in DVD player downstairs. We have no outside aerial which is why I used Sky in the first place.

My question is this - when the Sky subscription ends next month what, if any, channels will we be able to access without a rooftop aerial but using just the Sky+HD box and Sky dish?

Or is there another option to access the basics such as BBC/ITV which is inexpensive and doesn't need an outdoor aerial?

Take out the card, flick through, that's what you'll get when the sub ends with just one or two exceptions (for example CH5).

Or an external aerial will cost you no more than about 6m of Sky subs. But I'd go with !!!!!!, unless you want PVR functions, in which case switch to Freesat with a Humax PVR.

Macman, am loathe to mess around with aerials, not ust because of expense ( which is why I'm getting rid of Sky) but also because mine is a rented house, but thank you anyway.

You've spent far more on Sky than an aerial would have cost-and presumably you had to get the LL's permission to put up a Sky dish anyway?

If you have a sat dish, invest in a freesat box, but I would have thought that your sky+ box will still get the free to air broadcasts.

If you're like us, you probably won't notice the difference when your Sky goes completely because we mainly watch the free stuff anyway

DO NOT pay Sky £20 (I think it's £25 now). That payment would get you a card that's the same as your card will be when you unsubscribe. Unsubscribe, leave the card in, and you'll get Freesatfromsky channels (and no recording).

Absolute rubbish - his existing subscription card will act as a Freesat From Sky card after cancelling his sub.

If you want to retain recording on your Sky box post unsubcribing you would have to pay Sky £10 a month for the priviledge. You'd be better of buying a Freesat recorder like this. For a modest outlay you would have a superior service, no blank channels to skip past, proper fee-free recording facilties.
The Humax box here is very popular. Just plug your existing dish in and away you go!
