Been messing with quotes for my daughter, Ford Ka seems the cheapest.
But strange thing i noticed. 2 identical cars same engine, same spec, same year but 2 different prices.
I did this with 2002 models and 2004 models and had the same result, Most are the same but a couple were
cheaper for some unknown reason.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
I know, it seems silly that all these prices can change in a matter of days, very odd indeed!
Unless its to do with the "new year" as that quote for 1660 i got in december.
Ive been told ford Ka's are cheap to insure, the problem is im pretty tall and quite a big guy so if im going to be paying a couple grand for insurance it might as well be for a car i can fit in without being folded up like oragami!
however ill run a few quotes and see, if its gonna save me a grand ill job my legs off at the knee.0 -
Not sure about the Ka but i do remember jeremy clarkson saying he loved the original mini fitted in no problem and he is 6'4" or 6'5" ?
If you have car surely you dont need legs anymore?Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
first off, the cheapest KA quote weighed in at 2400. £800 more then a clio ( about enough to actually buy a KA)
Second, the original mini's are about £3000 add on the insurance of £2500, and im looking at an expensive first car lol0 -
When getting a quote from Aviva, have you noticed that you should put down how long you've had a licence for including how long you had your provisional licence?
I used them (back when they were Norwich Union) and got a good deal because although I didn't start learning again until I was 25, they don't discriminate against learner drivers and I could put that I'd had a licence for 8 years. Therefore you could potentially put that you've had a UK drivers licence for 2 years. It might only make a small difference, but it's worth checking.
Also, as someone else has pointed out, cashback sites are offering around £70 cashback (that's with Top Cashback and looks like Quidco are offering £50).

Insurers's reinsurance policies renew on 1 January so if the cost of reinsurance has increased, then this cost will be reflected in the premium.
Other overhead costs could also be factored in - rent increases effective 1 Jan etc.
Try insurers that do not use the aggregator sites - co-op, NFU, AVIVA etc. or contact a broker and ask them to do the legwork for you. That way you should be sure that what you buy is what you want and they will be able to provide comparatives e.g. adding older female driver v not, etc.0 -

Have you called Aviva and asked why it has changed. Ask nicely, they might honour the lower quote.Mr Straw described whiplash as "not so much an injury, more a profitable invention of the human imagination—undiagnosable except by third-rate doctors in the pay of the claims management companies or personal injury lawyers"0 -
The 95th... How long did you ride a motorbike and do you have any no claims discount on the insurance you had for it? Definately worth checking as car insurance companies can use that ncd against a car policy providing you no longer have the motorbike.
Small cars are always going to be cheaper but older cars not so much as newer models tend to be better security/protection etc. I bet if you quoted on a '99 clio and a 2011 clio you would see a stark difference in cost ( i know that doesn't help as it is out of budget but could you look at a slighter newer car..?)
Insurance prices for young people are extortinate but from my work experience I can tell you it is a fact that young drivers - especially males have the most accidents. And insurance companies don't like any accidents...large, small ...whatever! It would be much easier to collect premiums and never actually have to pay out !
Unfortunately aside from the possible motorbike ncd that you may or may not have there is little advice I can give you other than to keep shopping around....and get quotes online - they tend to be 25% cheaper! As Martin Lewis himself has also suggested - third party is not always cheapest so have a look at all levels of cover!0 -
Being a classic vehicle the Rover Mini can work out a lot cheaper to insure, likewise old Fiestas etc. We used Footman James to insure our 17 yr old son and it was under a £1000 last year for a Mini Cooper - you pay more for the car but less for the insurance! Usually you need to join as a member of a Classic Car Club to qualify for this discount. A point I am less than happy with though, regarding this option, is that the older cars do not have the safety features modern vehicles are fitted with.
I appreciate it is all very difficult with a limited budget and wish you luck in getting yourself on the road soon.
Our experience has been that it is really worth phoning up the individual companies to get the best quotes having identified likely options on-line.0 -
Hi The95th
I'd like to look into this for you, if you can email me your full name, date of birth, post code and quote numbers to david.hyam@aviva.co.uk I will happily do some investigation and see if I can be of any assistance.
