Passed Test. Insurance issues?

Hi there.
I know this topic has been done to death, but i could do with some help in solving my insurance woes.
Im 19 year old male, live in a country village and passed my driving test 3 months ago.
Ive been hunting down cheap car insurance since then to no avail.
My parents don't drive so I have my 30 year old brother as a named driver with 12 years no claims and no accidents etc.
Ive tried insuring cars ranging from 1 litre corsa's to volvo estates and land rovers, but i still cant get an affordable quote.
the cheapest so far is around £2600. My total budget for a car and insurance is £3k max. Anymore then that and I cannot justify spending that amount of money on what is essentially a bit of paper.
Can anyone tell me the best and cheapest way first hand?
Ive tried using sites like "insure the box" and youngmarmalde but it really is false economy.
Insure the box wanted £6000 for a 1.4 polo with 5000 miles.:(:(
and I dont really understand youngmarmalade, the insurance was cheap, at £1900 but the cars were like 5000, so id be paying over 6000 for 5 years!
Perhaps if somone could tell me a list of cars that are cheap to insure for 19 year old males and what the insurance should be for them.
Also is it worth going to a local broker? The nearest one is for Swinton and they were okay when I insured a motorbike last year for 6 quid a month. Just i havent had a chance to go see them about a car due to work commitments and the adverts for "save £££ online" etc.
perhaps ive answered my own issues, but with parents who dont drive and everyone saying " have a parent as a named driver" it kind of doesnt help!
Also all the old threads and posts on the net from like 2005 dont help much either!
Thanks for your time!
Greg

If not already tried look at Aviva insurance. My son who is now 22 paid approx £1200 for his 1st year insurance (2010) and his renewal this year approx £900.This was for a 1.1 Renault Clio.Bear in mind different post codes attract different premiums and they do advertise occasionally with x amount of "free" weeks.Aviva to the best of my knowledge do not show on comparison websites. If your birthday is soon might even be worth waiting a bit longer as older you are in theory at least it should be a bit cheaper0

Cheers Brian, I have not used Aviva before, I may try and give them a call. If not a net quote will do.
Ive only just turned 19, so ive got a while to wait till im 200 -
Have you got any older aunts/uncles that wouldnt mind being a named driver? The people with 20+ yrs experience really seem to bring my quote right down, especially men? If you could find just one person I am sure that would really help.
Also fiddle about with proffession/where car is parked etc, ovibously tell the truth, but for some reason my car insurance showed up cheaper with one company with my car being parked on the road as opposed as in a residents car park - I didnt take the quote as it would be impossible for me to park on road where I live but I would have been prepared to do it if I could. Also try fully comp instead of 3rd party. 3rd party was way more expensive for me this year compared to the year before?! I am 20 and got my 2nd years car insurance with admiral as they were pretty competitve (£632 a yr) so maybe try them? Have you checked all the compare sites? Some offer better deals with the same company for some odd reason (maybe to do with the amount of cash they take for the refferal?!) Remember to use a cashback site too, I got £45 back last year which is better than a kick in the teeth! Sorry hope I havent offered you advice you've allready got!0 -
Uncles, aunts, grandparents?
Very model specific, but have a look at Parkers. (Even a change of trim can push the group up by quite a way)

try group 2 and 3 as well0 -

Hi just got off the phone with Aviva.
Thanks for your responses,
With My Aunt 60+, Brother 30+ and Brother in law 40+ As named drivers on this car v231 gvx ( a 99 plate renault clio)
Ive managed to get it down to £1660!!:T
with only £250 excess.
thats without any of the extra's.
I may be tempted to add a few of the perks like personal accident cover etc. for £2 extra a month.
Im pretty chuffed. So credit to brian in pointing me towards Aviva, and saving me a grand.
Now all ive gotta do is take that to the bank of Mum lol0 -
That is called fronting - if yo have an accident and they find out they wont pay out.
The prices you were being quotes sound correct. Im 26 and paid £1300 for a 1ltr corsa. The onyl other cars i could sggest are a 106/aygo/C1 you can gethtem on lease for £110 a month, insurance was about £1200 for me when everything else was closer to £2kI am a Mortgage AdviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a mortgage adviser, so you need to take my word for it. Always pays to shop around.Still a very high amount to pay and am glad I am a bit older in that respect(will not tell you what I pay as may annoy you) but at least you are at a price you feel is affordable.Happy motoring.Brian0

Hi, I passed 7 months ago. I'm 21. Cost me £1800 for a 1.0 litre car. I had my father on as a named driver, I'm with Elephant.co.uk - Give them a try, I paid all at once. I've sinced bought a new 1.2 now, still the same price. I'm hoping my next insurance is £700!0

This is shocking, I hadn't appreciated prices were so high. When I was 18 years old (12 years ago) I insured a Peugeot 205 1.9 Gti for £850 TPFT. I thought that was expensive!
I think that was with elephant.co.uk
