Beware! Amazon scammers!

I almost got caught by this scammer yesterday.

If you have a listing on Amazon please be careful not to reply to the "buyer" directly. They will then have your email address and you are at risk of fake emails.

I received fake "Sold, dispatch now" emails from :

payment-guaranteed@amazon.co.uk

payment-messages@amazon.co.uk

Amazon.co.uk (sellers-confirmation-desk@consultant.com)

The sale was NOT verified by amazon and my listing is still on amazon.

BEWARE when selling not to be subject to scammers, if in doubt contact amazon directly. They are more than happy to help.

Amazon will never give you the dispatch address in an email - you will only get this by logging onto your seller space.

Just a warning to everyone as I was so close to losing my phone and paying up a large postage fee yesterday!

Amazon and eBay are rife with fake buyers (as are CraigsList and Gumtree). They send you a spoofed message from PayPal (or other companies) saying that money has been received, but is on hold (or held in Escrow) until such time as you have forwarded a payment on to the shippers (who are the scammer using another account). Amazon, eBay, PayPal etc do not offer Escrow services or put money on hold.

If you get a message from "PayPal" or similar, click on reply and look at the actual address that the message is going to. If it is not the domain of paypal.com or whichever company you are supposed to be dealing with then it is a scam. In the OP's example, consultant.com is a freebie email address from mail.com, which anyone can set up.

If you want to know more about these scams look on ScamWarners.com in their Auctions and online selling forum for more details of the kinds of scams targetting online buyers and sellers.

These days all Amazon sends out with regards to sales is how much money you have made from it, you need to log into your account to get the address details.

It is actually possible to make it seem like it came from a genuine email address....but this will always be evidence in the code of the email.

I dont have any fake emails to give you an example as these types of email are few and far between. In my experience, it always tells you the originating email address in the code - which you can then use to report them.
You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride

Thanks for sympathetic concern since am very satisfied with it, i am actually getting it for my father his birthday is coming up pretty soon, and i have promised to buy him a good gift, so i think i should give this to him as a surprise package, please i want the item to get to him on time once i have made the payment through my amazon account. i don't want disappoint him, Please i will be happy if it can be posted to him directly as soon as you have received my payment through amazon, i am very busy at work (a nurse) and will not be able to attend the party to present this to him my self. please respond asap so i can be sure of the next step to take. i just hope it is okay for a birthday gift. thanks for understanding.

    !

No it isnt. Just refuse to sell to these people and report the account to the relevant site.

Never answer to any emails like this and politely decline them.
Ive been buying and selling for years online yet have not been scammed once. All you need is to be sensible.

  • Jesus!!! Can't believe that is really happening!!!! It was my first web selling and this so-called Jacobs came!!!!!!! I have got the exact email!!!!! Can't imagine what will happen if I didn't check the email address!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I almost blamed my hotmail for not showing the attachment!!!!!!!!!!!!! Jesus Christ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Can we believe in anyone on the web now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • Looking at the op's copy of the email, one I'd the addresses is "payment-guaranteed@' as this stands out like a sore thumb then I would have ignored the rest of the email

The obvious way to prevent this is to not give all and sundry your email address. When signing up for anything, bt online, online billing etc. Use a throwaway addres
  • Its simple folks. Amazon will never EVER email you the postage address to stop this sort of scam. Always log into your Amazon seller account and lookup the details from there.

And quite simply never take any notice of any emails from Amazon as any orders/messages etc. are all in your account. Now customers messages also go to the messages section in your account then you don't actually need to even look at your email!
