  • HappyNow we've been having some very strange concoctions in the meals plans I've been doing over the last few weeks. But still get clean plates all round so can't be that bad.

My OH had buried his head in the sand for the last few years really, he knew things were bad but didn't really get involved until last November where he finally started to see the effect it was having on me. We've just started a DMP with CCCS and so far he's really on the ball with it all.

Good luck with sorting things out.xx

    Hello :)

Just a very fleeting visit because I want to update my Grocery Challenge total from £0.00 to £11.89.

I took DawnW's advise and went into Aldi because I was driving past it. Then I went into Home Bargains which was next door. I only bought boring stuff because it had to sit in the car all afternoon (bin bags, freezer bags, loo roll, yogurt, tomotoes, bananas, tea bags, onions, apples and a big bottle of fizzy pop if you're interested!). I was using it as more of a fact-finding mission to see what I thought of the shops. AND I LOVED THEM! I wish they were nearer home, but we have a Lidl close by so I'm going to sample that soon. I've read good things about their chocolate :).

Right, onwards to delight Mr Happy with the curry and spag (we haven't tried it yet Pinot, I made it yesterday but it's for tonight and tomorrow's tea - I thought it would give Mr Happy something to look forward to!). I shall be back later with the verdict and to read through everyone's diaries x

Well the curry is still waiting in the fridge. When I went to pull it out I discovered a Tesco Finest meal deal main course sat there with a 'use by' date of 12th January. It was hiding behind the tomatoes and I'd missed it completely. Now, four days over-date would have been far too risky for me a few weeks ago, but tonight I just bunged it in the oven, crossed my fingers and Mr Happy and I ate it with enthusiasm and garlic bread. That was about half past six and we both feel fine. It was a veggie one so I'm sure it couldn't do us any harm and it tasted lovely! All of which means we now have meals (the curry) for both tomorrow and Wednesday night already prepared - just a bit of spaghetti to boil. Go me!

Ooh, I'm loving the grocery challenge. £100 for the month is maybe a bit over-ambitious, but I'm going to try my best and even if I spend double my target it's still less than usual! And I certainly won't spend double. I'm going to try this one until the end of the month, then maybe branch out a bit and try something new.

Thanks Alice. To Mr Happy's credit, he has always eaten anything I put in front of him - I'm a rubbish cook so there have been some weird offerings over the years. And they're starting to get a whoooole lot weirder...!

Reading many of the diaries on here it does seem to be the women that get the lightbulb moment first and the men need a bit of help! Or maybe it's just that I've only really followed women's diaries so I've got a false impression. I don't know, but it's lovely that your OH is with you now though and good luck with your debts x

  • I stumbled across this diary & it's very good. Hi Happynow, I wish you well on your debt-busting journey.

Reading thro your diary it's an obvious concern to you that Mr Happy is unaware of the situ in full, i.e.the actual amount of unsecured debt. My OH is a big worrier so I don't pass on any burden - I take it all on my shoulders. Theres's no threatening letters & everything gets paid but money is tight due to high unsecured debt repayments every month.

What Ive said to OH is: Money is a bit tight cos debts are a wee bit higher than I would like, but they are reducing every month; xmas was expensive so we should try to spend very little in Jan. & Feb.; but the cash flow is ok (which it is) & the house assets are high.

Just remember that it's a marathon not a sprint.

Best of luck on our journey
