Hi HappyNow, well done on your positive steps so far in your journey to be debt free :) I've subscibed and will look forward to following your progress xx L.L xx

    Thanks LuckyLouise :)
I just looked for your diary (I'm becoming a bit obsessive!) but you haven't updated it since 8th Jan. I hope your debt-busting is still going well though. I have found that keeping my diary (and reading other people's) really keeps me focussed and I wish I had started one years ago - I might not have been in the mess I am now! x

Well the curry is still waiting in the fridge. When I went to pull it out I discovered a Tesco Finest meal deal main course sat there with a 'use by' date of 12th January. It was hiding behind the tomatoes and I'd missed it completely. Now, four days over-date would have been far too risky for me a few weeks ago, but tonight I just bunged it in the oven, crossed my fingers and Mr Happy and I ate it with enthusiasm and garlic bread. That was about half past six and we both feel fine. It was a veggie one so I'm sure it couldn't do us any harm and it tasted lovely! All of which means we now have meals (the curry) for both tomorrow and Wednesday night already prepared - just a bit of spaghetti to boil. Go me!

Go you indeedy! :rotfl: did Mr Happy realise the Finest Meal Deal he enjoyed with so much enthusiasm was a few days out of date, or was that your little secret! ;)

Mr Pinot hates cheese so I regularly have to tell a few porkies when it's cunningly disguised in his dinner!

Your posts have really had me giggling over the last few days and you are doing so well with your enthusiasm, keep it up !

I stumbled across this diary & it's very good. Hi Happynow, I wish you well on your debt-busting journey.

Reading thro your diary it's an obvious concern to you that Mr Happy is unaware of the situ in full, i.e.the actual amount of unsecured debt. My OH is a big worrier so I don't pass on any burden - I take it all on my shoulders. Theres's no threatening letters & everything gets paid but money is tight due to high unsecured debt repayments every month.

What Ive said to OH is: Money is a bit tight cos debts are a wee bit higher than I would like, but they are reducing every month; xmas was expensive so we should try to spend very little in Jan. & Feb.; but the cash flow is ok (which it is) & the house assets are high.

Just remember that it's a marathon not a sprint.

Best of luck on our journey

    Thanks wot-a-mess :).

Like you I prefer to take the full burden rather than worry Mr Happy, and I've told him virtually the same thing as you told Mr Wam about our spending. Also like you I pay all the bills on time so we never get any threatening letters or phone calls - I think that if we did I would HAVE to share the burden, but for now I prefer to handle this alone.

I'm going to search out your diary because it sounds like we have a fair bit in common (other than my debts being much higher than yours!) x

  • Hi Happy,

Had to laugh at the Meal Deal - being vegetarian it would probably have been fine apart from tasting a bit yuk if it was off. I wouldn't eat a meat one though if you find one with meat in that far past.... but I am a nelly when it comes to germs and getting things cooked properly etc. :rotfl:

Pinot, I would love to dislike cheese, such an unhealthy guilty pleasure :D

Curry and spaghetti, could be the new fish and chips.... ;)
    Just keep swimming!

Happy, It is amazing what my family will eat now without a single complaint. I gave them cauliflower and pasta cheese with a tiny piece of fried steak. An odd combination but not a single complaint. I used to be worried too about having the correct carbohydrate with the meat. I now know they will eat anything I give them. We were lucky this week as a friend gave us a piece of frying steak. I shared it between the men (3 of them) and not a thing was said. I don't eat much meat so I was happy not to have any.

  • Good luck with the grocery challenge. I'm trying the freezer and cupboard stuff at least four nights a week. I think I could keep going for a few months. Good job really as I have some other expenses coming up so it's nice to be abel to claw some back from the grocery budget.

Noooo, I didn't tell him in case he refused to eat it, and I NEEDED him to eat it! Since starting the grocery budget I've become a bit obsessive! In fact he actually commented on how good it was :rotfl:
