Hi Happy, I followed Seaside over here. Why not freeze the wine? Ideally in ice cube trays but then you can use it in cooking. It doesn't count for your challenge as the alcohol burns off but the flavour remains.

Hi redofromstart, thanks for dropping by.

I have absolutely no idea why I didn't think of this for myself. Probably because it's the first time I've ever had leftover wine! The bummer is, I'd tipped the wine down the sink before I read your post :( . I will definitely do that next time. (There will probably never be a next time :D)

All going well Happy - excellent idea from redo so you don't waste that precious wine!: My first day went well - though I was shattered after my 30 minute walk complete with vertical hill! I'm so unfit - I really need this plan!

And great that Honey's joining the campaign too!

Hi SSG, I will nip onto your diary in a minute to check up on you.

Redo's idea was brilliant, but as you might have seen above, too late to save the plonk. With a heavy heart I had already tipped it away.

Yes it's really good that Honey's joining in. She's done this before and will keep us on our toes!

    Day 3 - In.The.Bag.
Zero alcohol - So the half bottle of red has met the sink (wastefully as it turns out - it should have met the freezer). I really fancied a glass or two tonight but the urge passed quite quickly, thanks to Pepsi Max.
Maximum of 1400 calories per day, to include 5 x fruit and veg and just one sweet treat. My Fitbit says I've only eaten 1103 calories so I feel I might have forgotten something, but I can't think what. Absolutely loads of fruit and veg, and the sweet treat was a Boost bar which was unbelievably delicious and possibly my new favourite.
Six glasses of water per day Done.
Daily dog walk at a fast pace No actual dog walk today because we've been preparing a chunk of garden to seed a lawn. It was physically hard work, way harder than walking, and the dogs got to charge round playing with all the roots I dug up so they won too.
No looking at my phone in bed. I have an addiction here which is seriously affecting my sleep. Last night I went to bed at 11.30, lay awake until midnight craving my phone, got up for a cuppa (leaving phone upstairs), back to bed at 1.00 am and slept through until 8.45. So overall I got plenty of sleep but it was still a rubbish night. Ah well, it just proves I need to do this.
No money wasting. Balance YNAB daily. Spent £65 at Tesco but bought absolutely no crap. My trolley looked impressively healthy but sadly I didn't see anyone I know - I always bump into someone when it's full of sugar and fat. Once, my GP was in there at the same time as me and I had to hide in different aisles so he didn't see what I was pumping into my body!

We struggle with the idea of leftover wine too, but it's a good way to stop the last glass in the old bottle turning into might as well open another one.

I am trying to have sparkling water instead of wine, in a nice glass. Preferably chilled and with a slice of lemon so that it feels like a treat rather than sloshing an inch into a rinsed mug and drinking it at the worktop.

I'm afraid I automatically thought everyone knew to do it anyway, so I figured you'd come to your senses before it scoured your drain pipes.

I now can't see them without thinking of you!

It was physically hard work, way harder than walking, and the dogs got to charge round playing with all the roots I dug up so they won too. I'm reseeding a bit where there used to be a tree in the communal garden, but the pigeons get so much of the seed I keep having to redo it. It's taken all year but most of it's now got good healthy growth. It's due its first mow this week, so that'll reveal all the baldy bits that'll need redoing yet again. Annual croquet match next Sunday, so the baldy bits will just have to be a hazard to be negotitated.

Have you tried an earpiece an an ipod/Radio 4, Radio 4 Extra / the World Service / music to lull you to sleep. Works for me.

I love looking into other people's shopping trollies and baskets! Nooooo, I'm not a bit judgemental .... *crosses fingers behind back*

Seaside and Elnora, I'm desperately unfit, and have have been for well over 30 years. The last time I got fit was to go sailing in 1987, and I ate my way across two oceans and ended up with an enormous stomach, but i did get a tan so it wasn't all bad.

What I will say is that it takes a lot longer if you're post-menopausal (no idea what ages you are) and have been unfit for a long time, which I know to my extreme cost walking this dog. My legs muscles are in a shocking state because Layla walks so fast - even OH who keeps fit and takes it seriously struggles to keep up with walking her once daily. For three months I did it all on my own and belatedly realised my legs really, really needed stretching daily to unknot the muscles. They're slowly improving, but I noticed the other day that I was struggling walking up a gentle slope for 100 yards despite all the exercise I'm currently getting. It just takes longer as we get older, there's no doubt about it.

Don't be too tough on yourselves - even if you do one day on and one day off for a little while that's probably a lot more than you've been doing for quite some time.
    Better is good enough.

    • Lose more weight, ideally down to 65kgs by 1 September. Not a good start - I weighed myself this morning and had gone back up to 65.9, after a 65.3 weigh in earlier in the week. We'll see on Monday what the regular weigh-in time to be recorded for posterity is.
    • 15 minutes Flying a day, Monday to Friday; Saturdays don't count - yay!
    • Leg stretches, one minutes for each stretch. Totally forgot. Did two of the four minutes while waiting for the kettle to boil this morning, and I'll do the other two in a minute, and then repeat all of it tonight. My legs hurt an it's completely my own fault!
    • Lights out by 11.30 pm (I too have a screen addiction and have taken to watching slightly bizarre Youtube videos late at night - sadly rather addictive.) Total fail. More bizarreness was enjoyed.
    Better is good enough.

Come on Elnora! I was going to include your quote from just a few days ago but couldn't work out how to do it! The one where you said 'I only do around 20 minutes exercise and surprisingly I do feel better even after such a short space of time'.

Don't give in now - it's only 20 minutes per day. My top tip if you're struggling with cba-ness is to commit it to virtual paper here as a target, and then if you don't do it you'll have to invent some really good excuses, which I know from experience takes longer than 20 minutes :D. As Honey says though, even if you can't do it all, do some - we do accept partials!
I am trying to have sparkling water instead of wine, in a nice glass. Preferably chilled and with a slice of lemon so that it feels like a treat rather than sloshing an inch into a rinsed mug and drinking it at the worktop.
I'm a definite slosher. I don't always even rinse the mug. I drink bottled water (Tesco value) because ours is a bore hole supply and it gave LMH a kidney infection a few years ago. I keep it at room temperature on the worktop! I could probably try harder.......:D
