  • Thanks for responding. What I would really like to know is if anyone has experience of making a claim, against L & G, through Bradford & Bingley. Is it efficient and quick? Also, I don't think L & G provide the home emergency cover offered by B & B so I'm wondering how efficient that is. B&B's home emergency cover appears to be higher than that offered by L & G direct. I've been quoted approx £200 for building and contents, with optional extras, on a 3 bed, extended, detached house.

Are you sure the insurance company will be l & g.

B + B insurance is provided by bisl, other wise known as budget.

Do a search on them and you will see why they are cheap.
  • B&B state their Insurer is Legal & General but it appears B&B are part of BISL (Budget Insurance) so I'm not clear how this works! I've been looking at various Home insurance company on the ReviewCentre and was concerned to note that B&B rated an average of less that two stars on all reviews. However, I then discovered that whatever home insurance company I researched on that site, nearly all of them rated less that 2 stars out of 5. Do only disgruntled purchasers bother to write a review? SO I'M NONE THE WISER! BISL appear very low on the Which? Recommended providers list, scoring 40%. L&G score 55%.

Budget are an agent / broker, they receive commission from whichever Insurer they place your business with and will pass some on to B&B.

It tends to be dissatisfied who leave reviews which I take into account when reading them but a company with excessive bad reviews would concern me.

Have you looked at a quote direct from L&G or via a cashback website?

Which £50 deal for Direct line?
  • I have a general question about home insurance. I normally renew with a different provider every year to get the best deal.

I have noticed though that the cover and legal cover doesn't kick in til after the first 45/90 days. Does that mean I'm taking a risk everytime I renew as basically I can't claim at the beginning of a new policy????

I've been quite paranoid about this for the last few years, any insight would be appreciated!

The Legal Cover does tend to have a qualifying (Exclusion) period for a new policy which you would not have if you renew cover.
  • Tricky home insurance problem:

My wife and I currently have B&C insurance with Key Connect which expires this Friday. Last Thursday we started getting water leaking onto the kitchen floor (reasonably sized puddles). We couldn't work out where it was coming from and on Monday we got a plumber out to locate the source of the problem. He found that it was some leak in the soil stack which comes down from the upstairs bathroom directly above but he was unable to pinpoint the exact location of the leak without ripping out tiles etc.

So I checked with Key Connect and basically we're covered for the work in putting back tiles, redecorating etc, but not for the work that the plumber does in getting to and fixing the leak. I also checked if we were covered if the work was done after the policy expired, given that we reported it when the policy was in effect. They said that we were covered regardless of whether we renewed with them or not. So the plumber is booked for next Tuesday (after the policy expiry date).

Anyway, yesterday I was doing the old comparison sites to find our insurer for next year and I put in the details of our current claim (with an estimate of the costs). But there was nothing to say that the claim is ongoing. So I found a deal with Admiral, phoned them up this morning, went through the details and told them the full situation with our current claim. They then said that they couldn't insure us. Is this a common policy of insurance companies? Do I need to reinsure with Key Connect in order to maintain cover? I really don't want to be without cover, even for a short period of time.

Please help... really getting stressed out about this!
