    Thanks for that

Yes I have looked at sound deadening, as I read Weird Nev's guide,
I figured as I am going to get installed professionally, I would leave the sound deadening/mdf to them, as they will heopfully know more than I do about what exactly to buy, and hopefully they will have it in stock, though will check before proceeding

Ive seen how someone else has there's enlcosed in the swift, its not a pro job by any means but looks secure, so will follow suit

    Thanks for the input :)

No problem mate. I've checked out the Talk audio thread, you've got some good advice there too.
The thing is, much of it is personal preference, so until you start out you really don't know what you want.

If you are paying someone to install it, perhaps see if they can help you choose speakers - you can audition some or perhaps even have some fitted sale or return. I promise you won't go far wrong with the sub and amp I recommended, I've checked the specs and they're designed to play nicely together. It's the front speakers that make or break a system. At the very least look for "Silk dome|" tweeters, they're much less harsh than other types. both the speaker sets I linked have them.

If you;re anywhere near J4 of the M40 you're more than welcome to come and have a listen to my car, and we could have a poke around yours ans see what might work. I've got quite a simple system in it, and competed this year for the first time in a sound quality event. All my own work!

    Hey Mark:)

Only just caught up with this thread, glad to see you got yourself a new head unit and one of the ones I linked to in the previous thread you started:)

I see you've also moved on a bit now too from your original plans of just putting a sub in the car, as I see that you are replacing and amping up your front speakers too, you've come a long way in the few weeks since you started looking into all this.

Did you get to listen to any cars with a sound system installed?

Anyway I won't go and tread on weird nevs toes as he's doing a great job in advising you of your needs:)

I may even post some pics of my install too!

    Hi :)

Thanks again! Completely agree Ive had some great adivce from some knowledgable people, I think its just me getting too caught up with techincal details and peoples preferences, Ive seen subs second hand from £30 and then some much, much more. I actually really like the one you suggested, so will look at getting that one I reckon!

Thats a very kind offer mate, and I really appreicate it! I am in cambridge have no clue where you are from me, and I work shifts (chef) so not sure when im off from one week to another, hence why I wouldnt install myself :)

I think I could spend the next 3 weks looking over kits and still be none the wiser, so I will take all your advice, and go from there, I am hoping to get done soon, so I will update when all is complete :)

Love the looks for your setup, looks, nice and compact! suitable for my car no doubt.

    Hi!

Thanks for stopping by again, I nearly conitinued ald thread but figured as they were slightly different toipics, Id post again

Firsrly, thanks very much for your inital help, I got the headubnit for xmas so cost me nothing :)

Yeah, I looked around as suggested by you and others and thought, as I have paid my car off now (bought new) I may aswell spend a few hundred on a decent sound kit, as I drive it rarely and I love it, so makese sense to enjoy it s after getting advice, chose the sub in boot, new components and whatever else i may need in future I can always upgrade :)

Love the looks of your sub! Not ideal for me and my car, but looks great in yours!

Thanks for the advice once again, I cant wait to get it all installed!
  • Yeah those subs I've got are in a huge box, I picked it up a couple of years ago now from eBay for £180 from the vibe authorised repairer on there, prob wouldn't fit in your boot lol

Once you have your system installed you will love it, I promise:) just adding a sub makes a huge difference but as your fitting amped components in the front, that takes it to a further level.

The 4ch amp you see in my boot is powering my pioneer components in the front and pioneer coaxials in the rear, I had to do this as the volume my sub works at drowned out the speakers running off the head unit without the amp:D

That does tend to happen! That's why I recommended a 4 channel from the outset. Otherwise people end to fit a sub and a mono amp, and then a month later they realise the front end just isn't cutting it and have to re configure the whole system to power up the front speakers too.

My sub is actually a little bit trick: It's a 10" sub but on the rear face of tha box is a matched 10" 'passive radiator' - another sub cone but un powered in effect. It works a bit like a ported box in that respect. It's hilariously potent for its size, it'll make my rear view mirror bounch happily and can drop enough to suck the air out of your lungs - not that I do that often! Mainly it's for sound quality, which i does very well ,intergrating nicely.

The rest of the system is pretty nice, a Pioneer P88 RSII head unit with on board dsp ,which runs 5 channels of active amplification. Morel tweeters ,DLS mid/bass drivers and the two amps you see are DLs ultimates, giving about 500 watts to my front end and 500ish into the sub too....Meets my neads well, but sadly the car is soon for sale
So bye bye install (hello new install?? :D)
  • Love those reference series head units from pioneer, out of my price range though, maybe a purchase for me if I won the lottery as then I would have a motor worthy of such a quality head unit:D

Had a pioneer in my car until recently but missed the sound quality of my old my old alpine in the pic, so put it back in the car. Glad I did as it pi$$es all over the pioneer I had, wasn't as good as your I may add;)

:) I cant wait to get all installed, they all look greay if done properly I see, yeah I thought may aswell go get eveyrthing done, front componenets and all other wise will only get it done at another stage anyway!

I see, thanks to u bpth for the advice again, and I will take all on board.. and probably will buy suggested stuff!

    Thanks again!

Well I'm about ready to buy all
My kit I reckon :) enough talking I think, just another question, I'm not sure off hand on the size of my front speakers, so not entirely sure what speakers to buy (was going to get those ground zero ones) I assume they are all different sizes though?

Perhaps is best going to car audio shop? But if I know they will for I'd buy online :)
