    nice choice of reply
sorry if my one handed typing doesn't meet your approval
you choose who to order from
ergo you choose what service will be used
if you choose a seller who won't mark a package for you, then what are you crying about?
Its not my fault you can't grasp the concept of personal responsibility

I treat people how they choose to treat others, if you show no respect, i'm not showing you any, if you choose to be patronising and can't grasp basic manners that's not my fault.

    Actually, again, no.
One shop had this item so i didn't have a choice and the item didn't even turn up on time; but i suppose you have a reason why that is my fault as well, it couldn't POSSIBLY be the Royal Mail's fault could it? It must be the bad postmen on the other side of the pond OR myfault somehow.
After all we all know RM is a flawless institution where people don't steal from letters and you get above and beyond your money worth in terms of service.

My father was a postie in scotland, i know exactly what the RM is like.

I thought ''it wasn't as simple'' as doing that as you said before,
proving my point that is actually is.

    the sender marks the package
thats the 1st stage in your clearence process

all i see is more crying here
did you ask the suppier to mark the package that you would be doing your own clearing?
    yes or no will suffice

No one is crying here, not the type, all i see is one bitter man having a go at people to defend the honor of RM because he's right and everyone else is wrong.
    it's not a case of did i or didn't i,
I CAN'T ask the supplier, there isn't an option to anywhere, it's not one to one personal service where i can instruct them to do my bidding. It's not as if i just couldn't be bothered to ask- i couldn't
you put in your name and address and card details, that's it.

so you bought from a supplier with no contact details
    interesting
    never seen one of those
so in short, the answer is no
hence you chose to abdicate the customs clearance to a third party
    pretty simple really

If I order something that will have VAT or duty impliations, what exactly do I need to do to avoid RM's charges please?

I understand someone writes something, but not the detail. :)
