A friend said they got theirs for £80 up front for a 64gb and £27/month
Which seems rather good, with vodaphone?

Do you think having a tablet will be still owned and used with the same novelty in 24 months?
It would be interesting to know how long before the novelty wears off for the owners and the device gets rare useage, but the monthly is still coming out of the bank account?
  • not like a phone though is it i wouldnt want to rent a laptop that didnt do much for that long

Still a good deal if doing the sums of paying it monthly like the above versus a new 64gb not much in it

I'm just coming up to 2 years with my iPad, and I can assure you that there is no novelty, it is used day in day out and has been the most used 'gadget' I have ever had, however, I question the use of a mobile connection commitment simply to achieve an imagined discount. This is misguided, as the the most expensive GSM iPAD's are sold in this way (for obvious reasons) - yet a WiFi only version is considerably cheaper, and there's no ongoin commitment to pay for service. I discovered almost everywhere I went, I could get free Wi-Fi, so my iMessage and Skype provided the connectivity I required. I would suggest a s/h iPad 1 is the best starting point, and pay for data when you need it, not as an ongoing requirement.

A friend of mine has all his family on vodafone and as he had 4+ accounts they did offer him a free ipad on this tariff. We have one in our hh and a blackberry playbook and they are massively used!

  • A friend of mine insists on buying a wifi only iPad and then he gets the Mifi from 3 (12gb yearly) so he can use that on his laptop and iPad when ever he is out and about which is not the cheapest solution but he did not want to be tied into any contracts.

The iPad 3 is also just around the corner so maybe worth while holding off for a couple more months and see what happens?
  • yes mifi is by far the best way to get connectivity on the go for you and the rest of the family. connects up to 5 devices and one monthly tariff covers laptop, ipads, iphones and ipods .... also a great backup for when internet down or simply changing internet provider or moving. I have 15gb a month and works seemingly everywhere .... tying your self to a sim or a dongle on a device by device basis seems crazy!
