Return camera?

Options
Hi All

I purchased a new Nikon J1 camera on the 27th from Jessops using their Collect At Store service from the web.

Having used the camera today I'm not so impressed with the quality of the pictures - versus the cost of the camera (just less than £400).

Am I within my rights to return the camera? I've obviously I've opened all the packaging and used it all - charged the battery etc. ( I still have all the packaging)

I'd be happy to exchange it for a different model as I still need a camera.

Thanks in advance for your opinions.

Are the pictures of relative quality to the specifications of the camera?
You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride
  • It gets decent reviews. Just out of interest, what's wrong with the quality?

OP, did you pay on the website or when you collected at the shop?

May seem a small point, but could be significant.

Paid in store when I collected it.

Quality seems comparable to the £100 Sony Cybershot it's replacing. Not a massive improvement.

In that case you can totally ignore the website interaction.

You purchased the thing in store and had an opportunity to inspect it before purchase.

If it is not faulty, you have no statutory right to a return, but you may have a contractual right under the shop's returns policy.
Sorry, I don't know what that policy is.

Seems your out of luck legally and contractually as you've opened it:
Our products (other than those set out below) are covered by our 14 day no-quibble money back guarantee – just return the product to your local store unopened, unused and in its full original re-saleable condition with proof of purchase

Nonetheless still go in and discuss it with them, you never know they may offer something
