Is it worth me informing my insurers of the event? Just reading and doing some online research where I see scams or stage accidents happen mostly at round abouts.

You are obliged to inform your insurer about this under the conditions of your policy.

Now this damage has gone down from £1000 to £60, (depending on who gets the quote), there is something clearly wrong somewhere!!

    Who's winding who up?

We were not there to know the full details of the collision, one party says one thing, the other party says another, somewhere in between is what really happened.

I was told the same that you'll not even notice the damage once it has been repaired.

The quote I got from my local garage was a favour from the owner as we've been doing our services and MOTs with them for years and he was kind enough to do it for decent price.

If I'm working and don't have time you are welcome to see the quote and have a copy of the paperwork. As any reputable garage should be giving out proper quotation paperwork if they know it's a car accident.

If I do have time then you are welcome to come to the garage with me and talk to the owner then negotiate with them for my car to be repaired at your expense.

    Olly -

I do appreciate that your frustration. And please don't get me wrong here. I am here to seek fair advice and if I had any ill intention that I'd not have given my details and offered to pay the young lady in the first instance.

I just don't want to be conned into paying £1000 or losing my No claims bonus unnecessarily when it could be that it's not my fault in the first place.

Again - I did not slam and the scratch is tiny and hardly visible. I'll upload pics once I figure out how to!

Being realistic then mechanics aren't the most honest people around especially the private ones. If my local garage can offer me the work at £60 I presume he's offering me at cost price and the same I got a quote for £110 from another independent garage nearby where I live.

Anyways - thanks for your help Olly!

If it could be not your fault, then don't pay for anything!

Deny liability and leave it to the third party to prove you were at fault.

I only offered as a goodwill gesture but now I am keen on going the route of letting her know to go ahead an make a claim on the insurance and no longer lose my sleep.

    Many thanks and much appreciated.

was there any noticeable damage to your car?
If the damage is only to the car infront, it wasn't a "Slam".

My advice would be to contact your brokers, or pop into the local store etc.

never bother saying "oh I'll pay for it" because it will only end up with one person being screwed over.
