I tried to delete my other thread, but it wouldn't let me
My router sync's at around 1.5 meg's, eclipse profile is at 288kb/s I'm now starting to wonder if my line is messed up somehow.
So I have done line checks using both samknows and btchecker On my House My next door neighbour to the right and the one to the left and these are the results.
MY HOUSE
According to BT Wholesale, your line should be able to support a 0.5Mbps or greater ADSL connection.
You cannot receive 2Mbps ADSL
You cannot receive 1Mbps ADSL
You may be able to receive 512Kbps ADSL(Engineer visit likely)
You may be able to receive 256Kbps ADSL(Engineer visit likely)
You are approximately 2.70km from the exchange (straight line distance).
MY NEXT DOOR NEIGHBOUR TO THE LEFT
According to BT Wholesale, your line should be able to support a 3.5Mbps or greater ADSL connection via ADSL Max.
You cannot receive 2Mbps ADSL
You may be able to receive 1Mbps ADSL
You can receive 512Kbps ADSL
You can receive 256Kbps ADSL
You are approximately 2.70km from the exchange (straight line distance).
MY NEXT DOOR NEIGHBOUR TO THE RIGHT
According to BT Wholesale, your line should be able to support a 5.5Mbps or greater ADSL connection via ADSL Max.
You can receive 2Mbps ADSL
You can receive 1Mbps ADSL
You can receive 512Kbps ADSL
You can receive 256Kbps ADSL
You are approximately 2.70km from the exchange (straight line distance).
Any explanation to why these are so differant when we are on the same exchange, the same line distance and bang next door to each other?
Many thanks

Its a common misconception to think that because your next door neighbour gets a higher speed then you can.
Theres lots of contributing factors. Your distance from the exchange isnt how the crow flies, its how the line is routed back. So your line could double back onto another street & then route back to the exchange (ie. you could have a longer line than your neighbours).
Also the quality of the line can affect the possible speed. Over time copper phone lines will have some degredation on them.
Theres two of the most common, but there could be a lot of other reasons as to why your line cant handle a higher speed than others!0 -

How about internal wiring?
I mean one of the neighbours is a bungalow, so i presume they will only have about 3 sockets
I live in a 5 bedroom detached house, with about 7 sockets,0 -
I'm not 110% sure on internal wiring & its effects on the speed of broadband without fully researching on the topic.
Theres a useful forum over at https://www.thinkbroadband.com could be a try asking this question over there & see if someone might know anything else?0
