Hi
We had someone come fromnational grid yesterday to put some credit on our meter as our card is not loading and today i went outside to notice they have broken the door on our meter box i did not see this yesterday as it was dark when they came around.
Do i have to replace the box or is it the gas companys responsibilty to replace it.
Its not your normal box its a box thats onthe floor with a door that lifts up.
Any help would be appreciated

The box is your property, so you'll have to ask them to pay for repair/replacement, or compensate you for the cost of getting it fixed. No free lunch, and no free laptop0

Parts are readily available (door, hinge, lock) for most meter boxes. Get a replacement and send them the bill!

Failing that (although technically it is your property) tell them to come fix it - they broke it (but can you prove it....)0 -

think mightyroyals means this type of box,
even so I would think that the wee triangular key thingie could be sorted, if that is the problem.0 -
Its called a rabbit hutch, and contains a semi concealed meter. You would need to prove they did it, which they will denyDon't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0

Phone National Grid on 0845 605 6677 tell them what has happened. They should be able to confirm that one of their meterworkers visited your property and then arrange for someone to pop round to fix the broken box.
All other posters are correct that it is your responsibilty to maintain the meterbox. However, if you decide to "complain" to National Grid regarding the damage to the box I'm pretty certain it will be repaired free of charge.
Good luck.0 -

Hi mightyroyals,
The previous posters are correct in stating that the meter-box is technically part of the property and so the owner/landlord is responsible for maintaining it under normal circumstances (wear & tear, for example).
However, your supplier for gas or electricity (whichever the meter measures) will be able to get somebody to fix the door/box free of charge for you if it's been damaged by a Meter Operator (MOP) or Meter Reading Agency (MRA) staff member.
You have 6 weeks from the day the damage is done to notify your supplier so they can raise the necessary complaint to the MOP / MRA responsible and organise the work to be completed to your satisfaction.
Hope that helps,
Yoda

Wrong part of national grid that is the enquires desk of the gas emergency service which is nothing to do with metering - the first point of call would be your gas supplier who they visited at the request of and yes naturally you would have to provide proof.I am responsible me, myself and I alone I am not the keeper others thoughts and words.0 -
Why would they break your box...?Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0
