I am as entitled to an opinion as you are, I too have lost family and friends and do not find it acceptable for someone to be standing at the cemetery gates with their hand out. I hope you will find that a license is very difficult to obtain.

i think this is a little unfair look through my old posts from last boxing day ,ive lost lots of family and have had a horrible christmas grieving dont be so harsh

...is that somewhere that they make cement or concrete?

    Back on topic:

You will need a Street Traders' Licence and of course need to keep full accounts and declare your business to HMRC, Benefits Agency etc.

I am not remotely interested in your previous posts or anything about you, I merely voiced my opinion with regard to selling flowers at a cemetery.

I also do not agree with florists charging 3 to 4 times the actual cost of funeral tributes but that is a legitimate business and if I wish to avoid walking past them and their over - priced wares I can.
  • There is a flower shop right opposite the cemetery round the corner and they are open on Boxing day as people like to visit relatives graves and take flowers even/especially at this time of year.

There also used to be a flower stall outside the hospital (which had a maternity ward) and is opposite a cemetery, no idea if it's still there these days or not.

But it shows that it is a feasible and reasonable business idea, and at the end of the day it's the council who will decide if they are willing to give you a trading permit or not.

I went to Prague recently & passed a very large cemetary on the outskirts. Right by the side was a large florists shop, full outside with wreaths & floral tributes appropriate to time of year. Looked as if it had been there for ages.
I think if done in the right way, could be fantastic.
We always use the local village florist when taking flowers for my sister, we live 150 miles away so don't get there as often as we would like. The florist is very willing to make arrangements & take them up there for us (only 5 mins drive away) & has often sent a photo when she has done this. I think if you could build this kind of trust & service, it could be an asset to the cemetary, especially for people who aren't so local.
    Good luck

I agree with you about the costs. But perhaps all these comments would be better placed in a more chatty type of thread rather than one that was started to ask a specific question? :)

As much as the topic upsets you, your comments are upsetting to others who didn't ask for a conversation about it. Just a thought.

    That's true. It's unfortunate really.

We need to rely on people being able to make 'suitability' judgements and as it has been proved countless times before, a lot of people cannot seem to do that and the result is a thread that becomes home to a lot of unasked for opinion which is of little use to the OP and will be promptly ignored anyway.

Shame really. People do seem to think their right to give an opinion supersedes all else.
