My ex-inlaws bought me one of those fabric roll things for storing your jewellery in while travelling. I never wear jewellery though?! I'm guilty of regifting it as a secret santa present as the lady I picked wore a lot of jewellery. Luckily I opened it to check it was ok before giving it and discovered they'd put some photographs of my children inside.

My Gran always complained about her presents and gave a lot of them away. I won a naff flowery soap set in a fund raising tombola at school, and gave her them for Christmas :o

My parents retired this year, but they don't seem old and are still very active. I bought my Dad a huge TV remote control with massive buttons and a bag of mint humbugs, and a nice cosy rug and a tin of broth for my Mam. They loved them and thought they were really funny presents. I did buy them a proper gift as well though which I gave them afterwards.

Me and my children went to Cragside in Northumberland when were on a short break up there earlier in the year. My parents are in National Trust and are really keen to go as it's just the type of thing they like and they've said several times since that they must get round to going.

I saw a Groupon deal for two nights bed and breakfast in a nearby inn, so I bought that for them. They were totally shocked as they were not expecting me to get them anything like that, but they were thrilled to bits too

It's been a really tough year for me this year and they've given me a lot of much needed support so I wanted to spoil them to say thanks.
Here I go again on my own....

I really can't think of a rubbish gift I've given anyone.

Probably the most rubbish one was Asda vouchers for my brother's kids about 3 years ago. We live 60 miles apart and I knew they had a big Asda in their town centre so using the fact that Asda do CD's, books, clothes, toys etc, I bought those. If I remember rightly, Woolies had closed down and I remember thinking Asda was the next best choice of what shops they had in their town.

This year, I was more thoughtful and got Game vouchers for the 15, 8 & 6 year old boys and a Claire's voucher for my 10 year old niece.

Even the Secret Santa presents when I was working were carefully chosen.

I don't think I've ever received a rubbish present either, apart from a book on cooking fast food when I was 14 & lived at home or bath cubes when I was married and living in my own home - the gifts should have been given the other way around :D

Oh, I remember getting jigsaw puzzles from my nan when I was around 10 or 11, I always hated jigsaws, never did them then and never do them now. I always smiled and said thank you, then put it away.

I bought my future SIL a lovely bathbomb set from Lush this year. My OH just found out what a bathbomb is last night, and reminded me she doesn't have a bath!

I was mortified! I've been in her house plenty of times and knew fine well she didn't have a bath, but just didn't think.:o

Thankfully she didn't take offence and said she loves bathbombs and is going to use them in her mums house, but still:o. :D
  • I don't think mine is bad as such but my MIL has never acknowledged me or even sent a card to her son in the 10 years we are together, never came to our wedding, and never even seen our baby boy never mind sent a card to him, but we still send her a present every year at Christmas. I am in charge of present buying and hubby knows what I buy. Every year we get her pj's and slippers...nothing wrong with that I hear you say...well I make sure to get ones with a cow print or pictures of a cow on them....my little subtle dig at her....lol.....xx
    ;)I HAVE NOTHING TO SAY;)

In the late 70s my then BF commented how he envied babies wrapped up warm in babygrows. I then saw what would now be called a onesie in Miss Selfridge and bought him one in the largest size (he was only 5'8") for Christmas. It was pink. And he had to wear it lest he offend me. I actually thought it was a brilliant idea when I bought it and only realised when it was too late it probably wasn't :D
    Make £25 a day in April £0/£750 (March £584, February £602, January £883.66)
