Pay up front mobile broadband question

I've just moved into a flat but not sure yet whether I'll stay beyond the first 6 months, so I'm not interested in having a contract of any kind just yet. I'll only use it for light surfing.

I've just been looking at mobile broadband and am a bit confused. T mobile do a pay up front dongle for £30 with 3 months data. Apparently you can't go over your allowance - it just slows down a lot. So that looks like £10 per month with no risk. After the 3 months it's £15 per month which isn't so bad.

But what's to stop me just buying another £30 dongle for 3 months? Am I missing something?

Do you know how much T-Mobile/Orange charge per GB of Data? Currently 3UK is the cheapest, but only of use if you've good coverage from their base station, so it is worthwhile finding out nefore you commit. Once you have a network dongle, you can pay the going rate to extend the service, OR just a replacement SIM with 3 or 12 months of loaded data from an auction site, which is far cheaper than buying more dongles.
