Have you done any transactions with vendors you have dealt with before, using the old 'password characters' system?

Yes - they're always with tried, trusted and familiar sites. As I use a Credit Card for most online purchases. There's a few examples below :

Phew I see - so it's a fairly common problem it seems.

I hope they are working on a fix or they will alienate lots of customers.

Could be particularly difficult on train ticket bookings, as I have noticed if a purchase is declined and I have to start again, the seat numbers originally allocated are not available the second time, and as the cheapest tickets are on very limited allocation it could be the difference between (on my regular journey) getting a ticket for £13 or having to pay the next band, £16, because the booking system thinks the £13 ones have gone.

As others have said, it doesn't make sense that they are taking a level of security out, especially in this day and age of internet fraud being so prevalent.

Well maybe this bit needs working on anyway. All those other threads that mikeyorks kindly supplied links to are full of people reporting frustrating failed purchases when there is absolutely no reason for their cards being declined. It will hit the online market place for six if this becomes general and nothing is done to rationalise the rejects in line with actual fraud attempts. Just what the economy needs :(.

In your case though there was a reason for the decline. Some of the customer details on the train companies website did not match up with the banks card details which made the bank suspect the transaction was fraudulent and so they blocked it. Yes there are the other threads of people having problems for no reason but in your case it was quite simply down to you using someone else's card on an account in your name, something easily solved by either using your own card (as you did) or setting up an account on the website in your husband's name
