Yet another one to ponder, there doesn`t seem to be any shortage of "bargain" laptops.

Just a pity they`re not genuinely reduced to a bargain price!

I was expecting cheaper too. Not saying that these aren't good prices, but I thought there'd be a few for at least £50 less
  • I have had 3 HPs and on all 3 of them there have been power and battery issues - I have replaced my last HP with the Toshiba with JL as I wouldn't touch another HP/Compaq with a barge pole.

I also know someone who runs a pc repair shop - and guess which are the most frequent ones in for repair .. thats what swung it for me - and whilst I agree the HP £399 seem v good spec, I just dont trust them, also the after sales cust svc is awful.

    Just my twopence worth ...

    Hope this helps

  • Thanks Holly

    I'm holding off
  • I went for the JL one yesterday:) Have a samsung at the moment with a battery issue, it has to always run off the mains (only 13 months old)!
the 2yr guarantee swung it for me!
    is officially a GLEEK

I see the JLP is now down another £20 to £379
this has to be the ONE
  • I watched a short clip on BBC click (it might still be on the iPlayer) that talked about the release of Windows 8 in 2012.

I would guess that pc's in the shops at the moment with Windows 7 will continue to get a little cheaper the closer we get to Win 8?

My pc has been on its last legs for about 2 years now. Still tip-tapping away on it, just. I'm going to hold out for the Windows 8 release and then look at the prices.

Oh yes it will be coming sometime in 2012, which will give everyone the chance to INCREASE prices rather than decrease the windows 7 ones.

I have to disagree about the after sales customer service we had a problem with our HP laptop and they came and collected it and returned it totally fixed in just over a week. The people on the phone couldn't have been more helpful (admittedly it was less than a year old and you'd not expect it to break down that quickly but...)
  • Over past 3 years,we have had 3 hp laptops fail.
2 failed with overheat motherboard problems
1 battery failure after about 18 months

Wont be buying another Hp again,
especially after m8 of mine was over from Australia
and he had the same motherboard failure as i did,
so seems it's a generic problem with some/most Hp Laptops!

Admit it is a good price for a laptop,if you take on board
    the high failure rate.
