Heating on all the time?

Hi All,

We have dual Gas/Electricity with EDF and my flatmate has recently (end of Nov) kept the heating on all the time saying it will be cheaper (or same price) - does anyone know if this is true? myth or wrong?

Thanks, Gary

Depends on the efficiency of your insulation & thermostats.
I have sometimes kept the heating on all the time: with good insulation & thermostats I would say it costs hardly any more, if anything. And I personally find that if there are no "cold spots" I am happier at a lower temperature.
In difficult to heat houses, I have done it and paid up if I needed to - someone ill, new baby etc.

Well, you pay for what you use. So if it's on for 24 hours, then you'll pay for 24 hours.

This comes up every year. The more you use the more you pay.
I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.
  • We have tried this, according to BG, we have spent £161.40 on gas since 08/11/11. This is a ridiculous amount considering save for a week in November we have had temps up in double figures and hardly any significant frost. The heating is now going back on timer.

    CC limits £26000

    Long term CC debt £0

Total low rate loan debt £3000

    Almost debt free feeling, priceless.

Ex money nightmare, learnt from my mistakes and never going back there again, in control of my finances for the first time in my adult life and it feels amazing.

Damn. This question has been asked for the thousandth time on here and leaving it on all the time is always more flipping expensive.

One day the laws of thermodynamics will be broken and we can all leave it permanently on....

But surely the issue is thermostats?
Obviously if energy is actually being used, it has to be paid for.
But if the system is ON, with good, individual thermostats switching the supply off & on, it is not the same as blasting heat 24 hours a day.
So not a silly question, and I stand by my reply.

I have a pretty accurate thermostat in my Oven, so should I leave it switched on 24/7?;)

    Its not complicated....

    Heating/HW on..>meter turns
    Heating/HW off..>meter stops

    Simples..
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..
