HELP!! Possiblr Flight Scam?!

On Christmas day, my OH booked flights through one of those 3rd party websites called netflights, to Thailand. We recieved an email confirming the patment had been processed, and that they would email us again once the tickets had been issued.
We recieved an email from them 24 hours later saying that the card had been declined, so I called the CC company, whom confirmed that no attept had been made on the card to take the money, so i called netflights and some strange foreign guy said that he needed to speak to Emirites to see whether he could rebook at the price we had booked them at (£603 each)
Since then, I've had a think about it and i think it's some sort of scam, to force us in to paying more. When we checked straight after the email stating my card had been declined, the flights had gone up by £60 each.
Have we got any comeback at all, given that they confirmed that the payment had been sucessful for the original price????
Hope it all makes sense!!

It doesn't sound like a scam as such...
I think that Netflight had failed to update their systems, and so accepted a booking from you at an old price. As soon as a human being looked at the booking, they noticed that the fare was higher and so made an excuse about your card being declined. So let's hope that they manage to persuade Emirates to honour the old price: otherwise while Netflights are contractually obliged to provide the tickets at the agreed price, getting them to honour the agreement is likely to be far more trouble than the money in question would justify.
Did you consider booking directly on the Emirates website? The fares offered there are reasonable, and then you get twice as many miles in their frequent flyer programme (which is quite a good one).
And I must say, I think it sad that you spent part of Christmas Day booking flights.0 -

Why? Some people do not celebrate Xmas - maybe they are JW, some people might not feel like celebrating - maybe they have lost someone special at Xmas or this is the first without someone special, some people might be working anyway and some people might see it as just any old other day.
I've lived on my own away from family and it was just like any other day for me, no-one nearby to celebrate it with, so you get on and do usual everyday stuff, I did not even have a Xmas lunch, just a ready meal.
ETA: It's for their honeymoon - maybe this is the first time they have been together for the day to book it. I think a Honeymoon out trumps Xmas as they will have plenty more of those together.0 -
Why was the foreign guy "strange"?
netflights are not a scam company.0 -

I have spent much of Christmas planning a holiday - can't think of a better time to do it!0 -
netflights are a very big company, owned by thomas cook. I dont think it is a scam as they are based in Preston and I know people who work thereBlessed on 18th February 2014 at 0814 with little Sarah xxx0

He hardly spoke english, and when i called the number all he said was 'Hello', not a company greeting, which was really odd. I wondered if i'd been routed through a dodgy site/phone system.
I checked on Emirites and the flights are about £200 more. It's much cheaper on those 3rd party websites.0 -

Maybe he sounded..... Welsh :eek:0 -
EDIT: We booked through emailflights.com. Not sure why i thought it was netflights. Think i looked at Netflights before booking.
Sorry for the confusion0 -

That would make him not English, not strange!
Flight agents often have a different allocation from those available on the airline website. Wait and see what they come with before panicking.0 -

It's the first time we've really spent any decent time together recently. Perfect time to book the flights!0
