To buy new or second hand?

I need to purchase another fridge freezer and washing machine.
I'm not sure whether to buy both items second hand or to try and buy new.
I've had a look on ebay and I can pick up a reconditioned Bosch washing machine quite reasonably. Are there any problems with transporting washing machines? Am I correct in thinking that moving them can effect the drum?
Any advice?!

We picked up an "As New, Refurbished" Hotpoint Aquarius washer for just under £180 from a local independant washing machine shop. It came with 1 yr warranty. We assumed it was some form of Graded/Faulty return from new which they purchased.
As with the fridge/washer 2nd hand, it really depends on the price vs quality. Buying 2nd hand brings no warranty. A potential repair could cost as purchasing a new lower brand machine.0 -
Thank you for your reply. I've got a limited budget and I need to make it go as far as I can but I don't want to have to waste money.
I've been looking at perhaps buying a new Hotpoint fridge freezer and then a recon. Bosch washing machine.
Does anyone have any experience of Hotpoint fridge freezers? I have been advised to steer clear of their washing machines but I don't know how their fridge freezers fair.
Many thanks!0 -
Have you tried looking at fridge freezers from brands like beko haier etc fairly cheap and should last a while as made as simple as possible.0

I think it's luck of the draw.
I had a Beko fridge freezer for three years from new and it never went wrong. I only got rid of it because I was having a new kitchen installed and it didn't fit.0 -
I bought my Hotpoint Aquarius washing machine off ebay 5 years ago and its still going strong. Only paid £40 for it. My fridge freezer I got from the local Comet store as a Managers Special, had £100 off due to a small scratch on the side.0

3 years isn't exactly a long time for a freezer , if it was ten years i might be more impressed , they don't really inspire confidence

I'd be more inclined to buy a second hand fridge freezer and a new washer, personally.0

I'd buy a new FF and get a reconditioned/ ex display w/m. My reasoning is that so far I've changed more !!!!!! than w/m, I thought it'd be silly to spend money on a decent brand of fridges, so a few broken whilpools and hotpoints made me buy a siemens. After all you use fridge freezer ALL the time and washing machine some of the time. Just my 2p0

Thank you for all your replies!
Does anybody have any thoughts about buying a better quality but used fridge freezer? I'm keeping an eye on ebay to see what comes up. The disadvantage is that there is no warrenty. Has anyone got any reccommendations?0
