On the subject of school cookery lessons, I wasn't pleased recently when I provided all of the ingredients on a provided list for chocolate truffles which for my son meant gluten free cereal only to be then told by the cookery teacher (at the school that I work at) that she had added oats to them! My son had even told her that he couldn't eat oats. The whole lot ended up going in the bin because he couldn't eat them & nobody else liked them, presumably because of the g/f cereal that was in them.

We are vegetarian, which the school cookery teacher knows. My son made a tomato soup, and the teacher was going around with a stick blender to blend them all. She didn't bother to clean it before using it in my son's soup (the others were using chicken stock) so I ended up binning it. I wouldn't mind but she hadn't even blended it properly. I would have preferred if she hadn't bothered and left me to do it myself.

Just opened an instant access account with my local building society so I can squirrel away little bits of money I've made/saved, eg from selling stuff on ebay/Amazon or saving money on groceries - the NYM was a bit perplexed when I explained it was a secret ;):D

Good morning all...well now I eventually get around to actually updating on this thread. At present after todays shop at iceland I have spent £218.40/350.

I picked up some great bargains the last few days and am well stocked up. Got 3 packs of chops each containing approx 10 chops reduced to £2.50 per pack....would have cost me £15 but today £7. I have them all bagged up and in the freezer so that is at least 6 main meals for 5 people, so 30 portions for £7 which is 24p per head per meal....that is good :):):)

Hope to not go back into a shop until next Monday...hope I stick to it.

It is over a year since I started setting a proper budget for food per month and I have cut down from approx £500-£550 per month to £400 and now the last few months £350 ( except December which is saved up for all year).

I cook for approx 4/5 people, 5 days a week and approx 7/8 the other 2 days.

So all you newbies out there if I can do it you can do it too :):):)

    Take care all

It would a darn sight cheaper if he was !!

I was on about tuna :o.

Well i'm fuming with myself, ending up spending just shy of £20 in morriSons . Ended up buying reduced deli cheese and making a cheese board for tea, along with ALL the cheese / pork rolls i go on offer. So that pack ups for a fortnight gone arghhh. On the plus side we got 2 loaves of fresh bread for the next couple of days. I'm feeling really crappy so i've been slow on the bread front i.e we ran out.

My mother tricked me into buying her a lottery bingo card when i got her some bread, milk and rizla. I was livid i physically felt sick handing over a £10 note for her carp. I mean the woman has own her money frizzles it away and i'm left supporting her, when i'm totally brassic myself. Oh that woman, i couldn't even even hand the lottery card back as she had already started scratching it:mad::mad::mad::mad:

Top it all off i have to go shopping today to buy milk and cat food arghhhh. Just when you think your sorted. But i do have a huge pan of mince mix on the go, ready to portioned and frozen. Another 500g left of mince to separate and freeze. For tea tonight , i think were having sausages as my eldest has requested "please mam can we have some meat?!, it been a week".:o

thanks for the info regarding bread flour, i might pop into lidls this week as i've just opened the last of the bread flour, plain flour and self raising flour.
  • Just a quick post - got an approved food order delivered yesterday and have had to pop to the supermarket for a few bits and bobs but still well under target (annual target but worked out at £300 a month)...only around £95 spent but I will need to do a big shop next week. I might spend a day going round all the supermarkets to get the best deals :o

Have started a home delivery shop which just by clicking through my favourites and adding what I need/favourite items on offer has resulted in the total creeping to over £100

will look at it again when I get home. suspect all those offers I have added will be deleted as some I have no immediate need for and far better the money in my pocket than with the supermarket.
