I have been doing the second purse system for a while now. I started last year and when I got to December I took all the money out of my second purse apart from £10 and put this towards my christmas food.
When you first start your second purse system it is easier to stock up on perhaps one item which will be used fairly quickly so that the money you pay for it goes back into your purse quickly. For example I bought cat food which was BOGOF as my cat goes through a box fairly quickly so that I have extra money in my second purse.
If you bulk bought an item with your first £10 which you do not use often then there would be no money in your second purse for other items. It is about baby steps at the start until you have a decent amount in your second purse.
As you start to build up your money that is available in your second purse then it is easier to bulk buy items which you would take a little longer to use.
I hope that makes sense, sorry to waffle on

Hi Everyone
Not posted for a few days as had DS's birthday party to organise then I fractured my wrist and got concussion
Anyway, the upside is that the only expenditure has been on essentials like bread and milk. DH hasn't kept all the receipts  so I am adding £15.00 to my totals to take account of it all - that is probably overdoing it.
Our month ends on the 24th as that is our pay day but we have all cleaning / toiletries and meat stocked so fingers crossed we should be fine.
Thanks for all the useful tips on this thread!

That's better than I've ever done, but I've only been here since 2007Give yourself a huge pat on the back for coming so close to your target, that's a great achievement! :T
and I second what Helen Jelly said; this thread is always busy in January, if you're struggling to keep up with the thread don't feel bad about it, just skip a few pages. This thread is here to help, not put more pressure on you... don't throw the string away. You always need string!

We have given it to visitors for maybe 3 years now, and no one tastes a difference in their drinks. We use it to make mash, on cereal, and it always does a great job. We now only buy fresh milk if OH's kids are down.
Even if you just get a tin in to stop you running out to the shop on milk runs it may help budgets x
will have a look at that thanks
clairet13 hope you are now feeling alot better - sounds very painful
i dont like online shopping , i prefer to source my own stuff , on the odd occasion i have done an online order they have messed up the substitutions for example i ordered gourmet cat food and they substituted finest poultry gravy :rotfl:
the other reason is i forget stuff and end up gong to the SM anyway
I have had 2 NSD yesterday and today ( at work both days) im away tomorrow -so that should be another one and then will probably do a big shop on thurs or friday - not doing too bad so far0 -
Decided to go to HB today as needed a crafty birthday present..also spent £15 on a top up shop..not too bad as got toothpaste..simple soap and soda crystals for my wash gloop and stocked up on cup a soup and mug shots..I dont drink tes or coffee so soups are for lunches at home when I feel like something warm...mug shots are for work...only work Fridays but almost next door to a lovely sandwich shop which sells the best Roast pork sandwiches...I will not be tempted to spend money on lunch now.
Then went to market and spent £8.99..£2.99 on a chicken for tomorrows tea and £6:eek: on stew steak...this will go in slow cooker before I go to work on Friday...stops OH wanting take away...
Still need to go to MrMs tonight...recycling to drop off and need the heavy stuff ..milk cat food etc...we got through 54 pints of milk last week :eek::eek::eek:.Feeding 6 Adults 1 Teen a 8 year old with hollow legs and a very fussy 5 year old. Also 3 cats and 3 fishies
