Where I live I find that I get more miles using Tesco or Asda than using BP, however the Total garage is quite good too.:j Nothing is impossible the word itself says I'm possible-Audrey Hepburn0

I have been advised by a friend who works on oil rigs not to buy supermarket petrol. He said they add things to it and you do not get as many miles to the gallon as you would from a shell or BP garage. Does anyone know if there is any truth in this.
Thanks
Jayne
How would he know? Only the people who work in the refinery know for sure.0 -
Long drive to the airport?
Might know more about the AVGAS for the heelycopta. That north sea is sooo cold at this time of year;)"If you act like an illiterate man, your learning will never stop... Being uneducated, you have no fear of the future.".....

Well, I've discussed this with a friend who designs engines for a living.
There IS a small difference - measureable under test conditions, between engine performance on "premium" fuels and "supermarket" fuels. It's in the order of 1-2% efficiency/power.
But he says that in the real world there is no practical difference, and as stated tyre pressures, loadings, driving styles and state of maintenence are all much more important.
They also build their engines to run acceptably well on everything from 104RON "Race fuel" to stuff you can buy in glass flagons on the side of the road in Vietnam, so it's a bit of a non issue. The cost savings in buying the cheapest fuel in the UK more than make up for any performance/economy benefit of more expensive fuel - but it's worth stating that there IS a measurable difference between fuels from different suppliers.0 -
Either its a damned small or rather ancient helo to be still using that stuff.grizzly1911 wrote: »Might know more about the AVGAS for the heelycopta..............

OCD kicks in - what do they use these days, or more to the point can it be taxed;)"If you act like an illiterate man, your learning will never stop... Being uneducated, you have no fear of the future.".....
