Paint not adhering to walls

Hi
I've read postings about problems not adhering to new plaster. I have painted over previously painted lining paper (wiped over and dried) in Dulux Once. It covered well and looks great but now find it rubs off! Will a second coat help? Not sure what to do next.

Have you diluted the paint for new plaster (mist coat)? You cant normal put paint on new plaster unless its watered down so it soaks in

It also needs to be matt

Sounds like the original paint on the lining paper may have been "silk" paint? If this is the case you may find the moisture from the new paint has brought the silk back to life causing a peeling effect. If this is not the case i'm sure a decorator will be along soon to put you/me right. ;)

    Spot on ! ;)

Have I read the posting incorrectly? If so you should do as above 50%emmulsion 50% water so it takes to the plaster.

can you just confirm a couple of things - is it new plaster you are painting or is it previously painted lining paper ?
if it is new plaster then dulux once is about the worst thing you can put on it - it needs to be or should have been mist coated with a thin coat of matt emulsion , also i wouldn't bother with any once paint , it's rubbish , if it was that brilliant all painters would be using it all the time and i can assure you that we don't;), just use normal dulux trade emulsion , ie not the stuff in pretty cans that you get from the diy stores

if the paint is peeling off the lining paper, then you have a couple of options if it will all rub off i would strip it back if possible , i think putting another coat on will just loosen the first coat even more , give it a good sand down, wash with sugar soap and then either do a test patch and see how that fares , if ok then paint as required , if it is not adhering then prime with something like zinsser bullseye 123 , see how that adheres and then if ok paint with emulsion ,
or strip the lining paper off , either reline and paint or if the waals are in good condition remove all the remaining paste and then paint with mist coat if bare plaster , and then paint as required

You are right but thats not relevant to your situatiuon seeing as how you've painted over lining paper.
    in Dulux Once
As Phil observes Once is carp paint.
It covered well and looks great but now find it rubs off!
How long did you leave it before you tried to rub it off. Emulsion paint takes a full 30 days to cure completely.

Sorry if I've caused confused, I mentioned painting over plaster only because that was the closest topic relevant to mine but yes I have painted Dulux Once matt over lining paper previously painted with silk paint. So this must be the problem.

It rubbed off after only a few days! Didn't intentionally attempt this, it happened when wiping down the splashbacks.

I can't even bear to think about scrubbing it all down, resanding, painting two coats etc. This is in our kitchen/diner and has taken ages. Is there then hope it might settle down if left or even given another coat?

    What is carp paint?! :o

I believe carp is a way of writing cr*p on this forum as the actual word is blocked!

Oh I get it, so the consensus is that Dulux Once is carp!!! It's so quick though... I've found it OK in the past.
