Boosters - a year from first or second vaccinations???

I am getting letters fro my vet about :Fiona, Phoebe, Fred and George being due for their booster.

Now, I just checked their vaccination books:

Fiona and Phoebe - first vaccination 21/12/10 second vaccination 13/01/11

Fred and George - first vaccination 13/01/2011 second vaccination 29/01/11

Do I count a year from the first or second vaccination for them to be ready for the booster?

I will not be taking them to my regular vet as can not afford £45 per cat for boosters so this time I will be taking them to a charity vet as I am still out of work...

But I do not want to take them too early...

Will call the vets on Wednesday but as I have just found their vaccination books it bothers me now.. anyone knows?

I plan to take Macius the little one with the girls - them for booster and Macius for his first vaccination and then take him again with the boys - boys for their booster and Macius for his second vaccination.

Need to organise the logistics of that as 3 cats at a time in 2 baskets and 2 busses each way... sigh....

  • Not sure exactly how much but you get a fair amount of leeway for the yearly booster, slight oversight last year meant one of ours was nearly 3 months over last year and the vet was fine with that.

Thanks - I spent some time on Google and some places say you CAN have 3 months "over" - BUT not many vets are accepting that.

I am fine with a year but need to know from first or from second vaccination as at the moment it makes a lot of cash-wise difference to me.

    Anyone?

It's from the second vaccination. Note that many charity vets eg PDSA don't do vaccinations.

My vet tells me every 3 years is OK there is no need for annual boosters....hmmm....maybe with more than 1 cat in the house and the level of disease in the local cat population it needs to be annual. I think it's actually been 7 years since she has last had a vaccination. Vet has never mentioned anything about it.

It should be every year. If ever a cat goes into a cattery they will need to have been vaccinated in the last year.

It depends where you live so ask your vet for local recommendations, but yes, catteries/kennels will require a current vaccination record, regardless.

I presume you mean the vet, to be honest that would put me off right away and the cattery advice still stands.

My cats never did/never will go into cattery so this is not my worry - although others may find this info useful.

Also I am not asking about 1 or 3 years, thanks.

Just purely how to count a year from what? First or second vaccination? - from when they were vaccinated for the first time as kittens (last year) - simply because need to arrange the logistics of transporting them all... sigh....

Got my 4 at home now AND my daughter's 2 - my daughter's girls took 2 days to get used to the dog again...

Teddy was vaccinated in November this year, Macius is a baby so it our 4 plus the baby that I need to get sorted.. sigh....
