Run through the speed up guide first. Bet there's loads of accumulated rubbish on there. :)

you won't need to spend any money on it to get it faster.....your lappy is a higher-spec than anything I have, and even on vista you will make it far quicker by following spud's advice and working through the sticky, and using this thread for posting logfiles etc. for specific advice :)

Recently I 'sorted' a laptop with Vista, 1.8Mhz single core, 2GB ram, cleared 3yrs+ of rubbish also all the manufacturer installed stuff. It will never be 'quick', but it certainly can't be called slow.
It would happily have Palemoon browser open with a couple of tabs, Thunderbird email client and still play a DVD via vlc.

Run through closeds' thread, and as Gunjack says post the relevant HijackThis log.
    Move along, nothing to see.

Part of the Furniture Combo Breaker
I've had a number of the 1545's in this year with the 2 most common problems being broken keyboards and excessive slow down in Vista.

With Vista I found the biggest problem to be the configuration of disk space allocation (presumably by Dell) set aside for System Restore. Usually a general tidy up (as per Closed's speed up thread suggested by Spud17), get rid of old restore points and drop the amount of SR allocated disk space to something more sensible based on your needs.

There's rarely any need to have more than 2 or 3 restore points but some of the ones I've worked on (Vista) have had 7 or 8. If there's a problem that requires you to restore you should be noticing problems way before 7 restore points unless you've been doing lots of installs or updates within a very short period of time.
