Next refund how can i return?

My 2 year old daughter recieved a lovely red party dress from my aunt on christmas day from next. When we put it on her we realised its too small, on boxing day we went to next to see if we could exchange for the next size up. I was informed it was in the sale, as i expected, i asked if i could exchange or have a giftcard as they had no more in 2 stores. I was told because my aunt bought it on a directory account she would have to return it for refund, but she lives 200 miles away and posted the dress to us. As im not up on directory account procedure can anyone give me advice on where i stand? Seems a little unfair, i dont mind getting the sale price to exchange just dont want to be lumbered with a dress thats too small! Many thanks.

Get your aunt to send you her statement?0

Go into the store again in a couple of days time once the next sale has calmed down as they will not deal with refunds and exchange during this time.
When you do go in, be firm, tell them you bought it from a store (this will work if the item is Next branded), how much you paid for it and that you do not have a receipt. At the least they should offer you a credit note for the most recent price. This is if you don't mind getting a credit note for the lower value. If you encounter any issues, ask to speak to the manager.
If you do want to make sure you receive the full amount then u need to show proof of purchase but the money will be credited back to your aunt's account not refunded to you.
Good luck. I used to work for next, sometimes the sales assistant can be uncooperative but as long as your firm and make them aware you know your rights... They will take the item back0 -

They do not have to give you a refund at all so don't go in demanding anything. They are usually happy to give you a credit note for the current selling price which is the best you can expect without a reciept, but they are doing you a favour as legally you have no rights as you are not the purchaser and it is not faulty.0 -
I didn't say to go in and demand a refund. I said to be firm because I know from years experience working in retail which include Next stores what the sales assistant can be like. I also said at the very least they will give a credit note for the lower value.0

I have read on a previous thread on here a few months ago that Next labels use the intelligent barcoding system, which means that they can tell exactly where the item came from - therefore I do not think it is possible to say that you bought it from a store, they will know it came from the directory. The previous thread on here mentioned how you cannot buy something and take it back with a different receipt (eg if the price had gone down and you had a receipt for the same item at a higher price).
However, whenever I have been to Next stores at December sale time, they do not do any returns for the first day anyway, regardless of receipt/where item came from?0 -
Could your aunt post you the invoice for the dress and then you would be able to return it to a store.0

I'm sure that Next dont take returns back anyone in sale times, which is why they'll have suggested sending it back to Next directory, but as you can return next directory items to store, they should accept it back afterwards. You just need to say it was a gift and they should give you a gift cardLife is like a box of chocolates..........you always seem to pick the hard ones!0

I'm not sure if this is a new system, but I have returned Directory items to a store before and told them that it was bought for me and I don't have the receipt. I have never had a problem, they have either exchanged or given me a gift card. They will only give you the current price of the item without a receipt though.0 -
even if you have the statement it will still be credited to the directory account. i purchased stuff before, went in with my statment only to exhange for different sizes and they said i couldnt even do that they had to be credited to my account for me to then buy again. hope this helps0
