can you let us know please ....even though you say you dont need to itenise you spending...... its is still a good idea... as you can compare......i must admit.. since i started writting my spending..down..... it has made me realise.. how much i spent on rubblish without really knowing it.......hope that makes sense...
Yes I quite agree with the itemising every expenditure - when I was first married I did this. In fact I have here an old diary - in April 1975 my monthly household income was £259.22 and I spent £253.54. On 26 April 1975 I bought a pair of Scholl sandals for £2.99! My outgoings included an amount of £107.14 for standing orders and mortgage. My standing orders included £4 a month towards my Christmas fund. Gosh this is all sounding a bit scary now! But we managed trips to Holland and France that year and there is an entry for petrol from Devon to Lincoln - £10!!! Ooo er ... it's a long time ago.0 -
ksour....do you think i'm a rebel....lol.....:rotfl:
going by what ksour is saying......this week tescos have lost out no £56.15 OF MY MONEY.....but lets get realistic... i would have prob... spent more in tescos on impulse buys.. as i said earlier.. and also the bogof items.....
ksour..... i think i will add that to my sig.....Work to live= not live to work0 -
i know this is going off thread a bit.. but my m.i.l got every bank statement..... every weekly spend sheet.....how much interest a bond or endowment policy made etc........before she got married she worked in accounts for a local store.. where you had to be a member of....
then when she got married her hubby did not want her to work.. so she had to give up her job... to be a house wife...but she still run the house accounts like she did in her work.......when he died.... leaving her with only the works pension and a lump some of money to live on..... she was only in her early 40's ...it really kicked in with budgeting.... etc.....
she is very os. only goes shopping every 6 weeks.....when her friend down the road takes her... and her list is stuck to more or less to the letter.....
which i wish i could have done what she had done...from day one....run the household budget like a business.....to stay in profit.........so no debt......Work to live= not live to work0 -

well I felt quite rebellious driving past Mr T's the other day:rotfl: :rotfl:
Did feel like making a few hand signals but DD's were in the back of the car:D
But look what you've started!
Will be interesting to see how many people are doing this and how much money has been taken from mr T's grubby hands.
Now all you need is a catchy logo and we can start printing posters and t-shirts:D0 -

You ARE doing a good job!!! You are on the right track and moving forward in a very positive way.
Also, your starting this thread has made a whole lot more people think more of how they shop. Not a bad feat in itself!
Congratulate yourself! :T0 -
Couldn't resist - have got myself a signature!0

Managed to drag DD's to the town where I used to work (don't think they'll be a problem getting them to go back as they loved it!)
More of a nosing around mission as I have alot of stuff and it's hard to itemise everything we bought so I've been good and just compared what I would have bought in Tescos and not stuff I'd normally get in other shops (eg the air freshners that I usually get in poundstretchers)
So cost on high street £6.88 cost in Tescos £7.06
another saving of 18p (every little helps!)
I bought doves organic strong white flour which cost me £1.43 (it's only £1.08 in tescos but it's £1.51 on goodnessdirect) but as usual its probably the things I wasn't suckered into buying that's going to be a saving.
Also picked up 2 paperbacks for DD's in charity shop - grand total of 40p!
And I got a rolled & stuffed breast of lamb from the butchers for 99p - big enough to do the 4 of us for a meal easily.:j
I do feel after lugging all of my shopping back to the car park that the lemonade and similar heavy stuff may have to be purchased in Lidls (or Makros when I go) or I'm going to end up with bigger muscles than popeye:D
so scores on doors are
Tescos lost £28.10
I gained £1.35
lost in points for clubcard deals £1.120 -
Just been to local butchers instead of farm shop, I think he just thinks of a number and charges me it, £7.80 for ham, pease pudding (both very small amounts) 6 bread buns and a small ham shank. Same stuff cost £5.50 last time, £8.90 time before and weighs about the same. Right that's it not going back, sticking with farm shop! Got some other things I needed from the other local shops. If it wasn't for the petrol money I would travel to a town I know is cheaper, but kind of defeats the object if I am not going there anyway.
I have gone over my GC for this month, but thought I would. There is however a lot in freezer/cupboards etc and I have the years supply of Bold on it's way :rotfl: I've decided to miss a bargain/stock up opportunity it's silly to try to stick to the challenge and loose out.One day I might be more organised...........
GC: £200
Slinkies target 2018 - another 70lb off (half way to what the NHS says) so far 25lb0 -

It's a really nice place, but a bit on the pricey side - but it does have a fab vegetarian cafe, selling fairtrade tea, coffee and lovely homemade cakes.
They also raise and sell their own organically produced meat, which tastes absolutely fantastic... Well worth a visit if you're in the area.
