when we were out walking in devon last year we got some eggs at a farm - they were just sat on a table with a price and a margerine tub for the money. they were the best eggs i've ever tastedMum to gorgeous baby boy born Sept 2010:j0

If anybody lives in the Cirencester area, this farmshop looks really nice:

i have noticed there a few food companies going through quidco......including martins fish that been recommmended on here.......
also dont forget.. if you are buying something with a b.i.n on ebay...... go through quidco.... i think you get 14p cashback... not a lot... but it al adds up.....
so when i buy the washing powder.....i will be doing it via quidco.........;)Work to live= not live to work0 -
WOW! you've started a revolution CTC!:D
Would be interesting to have a tally up at the end of the month and see how many of us are trying to do this now and how much £ we have moved away from the big supermarkets.
I also wonder how long it's going to be until Mr T works out I've been going elsewhere and sends me some tempting vouchers!?
Right off to plonk my bum in front of tv for first time this week! I've flicked through the paper and seen the mouse in the supermarket photo but haven't read the article (I always feel a bit queesy before breakfast) enough to put anyone off supermarkets!0 -
Has anyone actually costed out their weekly shopping yet comparing one week Tesco/Asda/big supermarket to one week local stores/farm shop/market? If so, it would be interesting to see the figures.
Although I guess the quality of the shopping experience might well make up for the difference in cost? Yesterday, buying meat from our local farmers' market I learnt all about the breeds and how long the beef had been hung from AND the lady on the stall let me have a pack of bacon half price because it was a little bit fatty - good marketing skills there!0 -
from thursday... to wedneday this week i spent £56.15 on shopping.......and just under £4. was spent at the co-op.. for milk and high juice......
now if i had shopped in mr t..... going by my passed shopping bills which ranged from £86. to £140 od per week......i think this is pretty good......
but its early days yet..... as i did have a stock of washing powder.. toilet rolls.... store cupboard stuff........
i am now down to the last few weetabix:eek: which my youngest practically lives on......so will prob be using mackro...... might not be as cheap as tescos etc.....but i think over all it will even out..... as i will not be buying impulse buys.... junk food..... crisps.. biscuits... etc.....
so this week it might be more money..... but as long as it is under £86......and ideally around the £50-£60 mark i will be happy.....
as we have re-mortgaged.....to get us back on track.....due to a failed business..2 years ago ... funny enough mr t had something to do with that...lol.......as we had our outgoing of £740 odd per month on credit cards ..loans etc... which only left us with £35. per week....and what ever i sold on ebay....to pay for food.. petrol..electric etc...
so now we will have £120. per week.. and this will be for food..petrol...electric..pet food..... and odds.....
so not only from an ethical view.. but from a financial view i think this way of shopping might suit us best.....
so got to get those clubcard points out of my head....
most of our local shops in neighbouring villages...so got to have a car to get there.....same as tescos.....but hoping to get some things delivered like pet food.. to save on petrol costs.....
also how many of us are trying to change now
maybe you could let us know how your budget is doing... nearly days i know.....but hopefully it will even out....Work to live= not live to work0 -
Mmm - it's difficult to say about my budget at the moment. I FEEL I spend a lot less but of course it's real figures that count.
I guess a month's trial is more realistic than week's and it would be a case of itemising all expenditure in a note book. I don't have a need to do that at the moment as I feel I am well within my budget each month (thanks to Mr Micawber's advice!) Sorry - sounds a bit righteous.
As for Clubcard points - I was chuffed to get a free magazine subscription out of them - but then I asked myself how much I had to spend to get it? Luckily my nearest Tesco has had a major "improvement" - now bigger and an extra floor - I say luckily because this has been enough to put me right off going there for my main shopping and traipsing around walking lots of extra "food miles". (Yes I know there is the keep fit advantage!)
I think the OP has started a brilliant thread here and that it will benefit lots of us - so many thanks again. (A bit of a rambling post, apologies)0 -

mr micawber...........
can you let us know please ....even though you say you dont need to itenise you spending...... its is still a good idea... as you can compare......i must admit.. since i started writting my spending..down..... it has made me realise.. how much i spent on rubblish without really knowing it.......hope that makes sense...Work to live= not live to work0 -
The following is taken from Wikipedia
Wilkins Micawber is a fictional character from Charles Dickens' novel David Copperfield. He was modelled on Dickens' father, John Dickens, who also ended up in a debtor's prison (the King's Bench Prison) after failing to meet the demands of his creditors.
His name has become synonymous with someone who lives in hopeful expectation. This has formed the basis for the "Micawber Principle", based upon his observation:
"Annual income twenty pounds, annual expenditure nineteen nineteen six, result happiness. Annual income twenty pounds, annual expenditure twenty pounds ought and six, result misery."
Hope that helps. :-)0 -

I compared mine using tesco on line and saved 11p in greengrocers and just over £1 in lidls (which shouldn't count I suppose because it's a supermarket)
I was already shopping at local butchers/shop and with my tab there it's harder to keep track on spending but I certainly don't seem to be spending any more. I know that I spend alot less on meat in our butchers than I would in Tescos. It's going to be hard to compare but I think I'll declare what I spent elsewhere that I usually would have bought in tescos.
So CTC is rebel No. 1 saving as declared above
I'll be No 2 (not in a second in command way:D in a second to declare the extra cost/saving by high street shopping) and my totals are
proper high street shoppping - spent £11.19 - saved 11p and bought much better quality produce.
Desperate Tesco avoidance (Lidls) - spent £9.85 - saved roughly £1.06p (can't find bit of paper I wrote it on:o )
so tesco lost £21.04
I gained £1.17
lost in points for deals 84p0
