I'm in. I was going to do a big shop on 1st May then just a limited budget for top ups, but having done stocktakes of freezer and cupboards I have no need to do a big shop at all. I've done my list and it should be doable without having to travel too far. First stop will be farm shop tomorrow.

Then count me in, as long as I can still go to Lidl & Aldi I should be able to manage a month :)

This looks like a really good challenge. I'll follow the thread with interest, and perhaps post now and then if nobody minds, but at least for this month I need to keep using supermarkets because of my current situation.

A bit of background - I'm a carer with disabled OH at home. I normally work full time but am recovering from an operation and have been told not to lift things, get more rest etc. To help with this i started getting online supermarket deliveries. When I am working the local shops are shut when I get home. I value the local shops, but they seem very quiet during the day and then shut when all the workers come home - forcing us to use the supermarkets. For me its not the supermarkets that are driving out my local shops, its their refusal to adjust to the fact that the old pattern of women at home during the day and able to shop no longer exists.

I will investigate veg box delivery and see if there is any source of other deliveries locally so that I minimise the supermarkets - if that's enough to join in, at least in spirit, count me in. Otherwise I'll cheer you all on from the sidelines :A

:) I'm in. But am I allowed to go to the Co-op (my new-found love as of this morning)? Wanting to get back there to join up and all.

  • Hi GQ, I think the guys on the last challenge used the co-op and a few other high street shops, I think the main point is to try and give our business to more local/independent shops and keep away from the big 4.
So welcome aboard:T and Rosetta it would be lovely to have you along for the ride :D.

Flip doesnt time fly 5 years:eek:

The main aim was to support local businesses ( or independant on-line businesses)

the challenge def changed the way i shopped, yes i have ventured back into supermarkets:cool: But On the whole i do try and support local businesses, and it is suprising how you can keep in budget by shopping this way...

I think i used as many independant local businesses as possible, and then used the co-op and booker's for things that were either way ott on prices or things that i could ...

 Count me in, this is right up my street. I haven't been near the big 4 for months and still survive. I hate the way they monopolise the market. Bring back the independent shops I say. I for one am willing to pay more if it means keeping the money in my area (more likely) and out of the pockets of the giants. (I am far from rich btw and am always struggling to make ends meet)

I will have a nose through the thread thanks for bringing it to my attention guys.

Another good thing about supporting local independant businesses, you know they will pay taxes in this country;)
