On Vodafone, but am considering switching to Vodafone with Phones 4U (porting)

Hi all, I am currently on a rolling monthly contract with Vodafone, however I am looking at getting a new phone soon. The phones and tariffs with Vodafone aren't that good (imo), but Phones 4 U have cheaper tariffs and the phone I want (on Vodafone).
How would switching work? Can I cancel with Vodafone and get the PAC then go to Phones 4 U with this and get my number changed, or would I need to 'port' it to another provider (using a PAYG sim) then again to the new Vodafone phone?
Thanks for your help

Please note, we are currently only able to support number porting when transferring to a different mobile network. Porting within the same network (e.g. Orange to Orange) is not permitted, any porting decisions are at the discretion of the respective network providers and all PAC codes are only valid for 28 days.
Answer my own question, going to have to port to another PAYG sim then again, what a kerfuffle......0 -
I would check with P4U to see if they can upgrade you first.Have I helped? Feel free to click the 'Thanks' button. I like to feel useful (and smug).0

You would have to port to another provider and then back again because you cannot port to the same network.Nobody is Perfect. I am Nobody, therefore I am Perfect.0

Sort of. An upgrade just extends your current number into a new term with generally a new tariff and handset/sim.Have I helped? Feel free to click the 'Thanks' button. I like to feel useful (and smug).0 -
Ok cool, might give that a go. Thanks.....0

AFAIK, you don't need another network to port from PAYG to contract at Vodafone:
Vodafone won't let me keep my number for a new contract
If so, switch from the contract to PAYG, then transfer the number to the new contract.0 -
phones 4 u contacted me a couple of months before I could leave me vodafone contract withouth penalty (but could still upgrade with V) and they gave me a cheaper deal, the phone for free and also promised me £40 cashback. I am still waiting for the cashback but they say it takes 40+ working days and I have only had the phone a few weeks. It was pretty much hassle free.
Give phones 4 U a call to test the water but don't sound too keen and they will move you between departments with various people trying to convince you to go with them offering better and better discounts and deals. Good luckIf you always do what you have always done, you will always get what you always got!0
