no scart sockets?

Hi I am looking at buying an led tv in the sales Toshiba 32SL863B £329 with 5 yrs free warrenty, but noticed it doesnt mention scart sockets, how would I connect my dvd player?

If it's got a HDMI socket you could use a HDMI to SCART converter.Although this TV is better,I have one & CANNOT fault it on bit!Brilliant picture & I can connect my laptop & ecternal HD drives to it with no problems!

Many of the newer slim TV's don't have a SCART socket as we know it, because they're too thin. Usually they have a small adapter cable to provide at least 1 SCART connection.

Don't know if Toshiba do it this way, but both the Samsung and Pansonic TV's I have are without a SCART socket, but came with a drop cable.

SCART is already on the way out, it's big, ugly and not digital (being well over 20 years old). As others have said, if it has HDMI, you'll be fine.

Well.... just bought a Panasonic Plasma TX-P42ST30B which arrived a couple of days ago and it has one scart socket and that model was brought out earlier this year.

Just had a quick google for the Toshiba 32SL863B and it says it comes with 1 scart socket but to be sure ring up or email the company you are thinking of buying the TV from and ask them to check.

Scart may be on the way out but a DVD recorder does not take an HDMI cable. At least that it what I was told when I ordered my new tv a couple of days ago.

As an input no, but some DVD recorders, DVD players and Freeview boxes have HDMI outputs even if they are SD only.

Scart is an analogue connection.....HDMI is a digital connection.....SD is a digital signal - simples !

Because they have usually have inbuilt electronics to upscale the SD to HD although there is absolutely no reason that SD only signals can be transmitted via HDMI cables. HDMI is a socket and cable specification and does imply that the output is true HD.

DVD Recorders are similarly life-expired, with DVR's using Hard Disks for the last 10 years or so. Nevertheless, there are plenty of other options and HDMI conversion cables are legion (as a digital feed is always preferable to an analogue one)..
